It’s helped him tackle dozens upon dozens of new @guidedbyvoicesofficial songs most years, as well as recreating the Beatles’ enormous Cavern-days setlists with @bambikinoofficial . Still, the prolific guitarist and songwriter had to consciously make a “mad dash” to finish the group of songs on Parallel Stride, his first solo album since 2014.

Doug hits on: stringing together speaker-jumping, chorus-warbling solos with one of his Blue-plated Boss pedals; the aged Goldtop he played at Tom Beaujour’s Hoboken studio; whether or not the main earworm in power-pop “New Vista” was a subconscious salute to Rush; songs on an imagined isolation; and his penchant for low-string drone notes.
