I remember on this day being at the airport with only a small hand luggage suitcase. One of those that people wheel absentmindedly beside them. But on that day, it was my lifeline. I would push it for a few metres and stop. Sit on it. Rest. Then stand again and continue. At some point I bought an apple from a kiosk nearby, and even eating it felt difficult because I was so tired.

I was tired in the way the body becomes tired when it has been ignored for too long.

What has astonished me since sharing my story is how many people have written to say, “This is me.”

I have come to realise that many people are either approaching burnout, living inside burnout, or trying quietly to recover from it. But the frightening thing is that many do not even know they are burnt out because they are still functioning. Still working. Still smiling. Still delivering.

We have become so accustomed to exhaustion that we no longer recognise it when it begins to consume us.

And yet healing cannot begin until honesty does. Because you cannot recover from what you refuse to name.#rest#surrender

There’s a particular kind of exhaustion women become experts at hiding.

The kind where you still show up. Still perform. Still smile.
Still carry everyone else while quietly falling apart inside.

“I wasn’t supposed to go for this trip.”

That sentence stayed with me long after I had packed my bag and convinced myself I was doing the right thing.

Because women learn very early how to function through exhaustion. We learn how to organize through it, lead through it, mother through it, survive through it. We learn there is something admirable about being the woman who always shows up.

And so we keep saying yes.

Even when our bodies are whispering no.

But burnout doesn’t always happen because of one catastrophic moment. Sometimes it happens through a thousand tiny betrayals of yourself. A thousand moments where your body says no and your mouth says yes.

But here is the thing, the body keeps score.

Eventually, it remembers every ignored warning. Every sleepless night. Every swallowed emotion.
Every moment you chose performance over peace.

And one day, it stops asking politely.

You don’t notice burnout…
until it stops you.

Don’t wait for the crash.
Pause. Check in. Choose rest.

Are you listening to your body today?

The quiet taught me something.
When I finally slowed down, I didn’t expect what surfaced.
More on that soon.

Thank you all for the wonderful Birthday wishes. I am a year older and most certainly wiser especially in the general area of wine.

You see I spent part of my day on a Winery Tour where I learnt alot about wine....I mean granted, as much as I could in 45 minutes but those are minor details. The key take away here is I am now a bona fide wine expert....a sommelier if you will.

Before that we visited the Montserrat Monastery so I could pray for Manchester United, the price of cooking oil and of course for my bank account.

I then took a nap because....well, age. My club hopping days are far behind me, and lie deep in the ocean where all your transgressions are also buried.

All this to say I had an amazing day and I am deeply thankful to my sister who plans everything ever so meticulously....and I want to thank myself for following her instructions.
