In observance of Memorial Day, all Deschutes Public Library branches are closed today and we will resume regular hours tomorrow, Tuesday, May 26. As always, our digital resources and online catalog are available for you to place holds, find audiobooks, and more! dpl.pub/digital

Earlier this month, the Redmond Library hosted a Volunteer Expo, pairing members of the community with volunteer positions at over 30 local organizations including: Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity, CASA, Healing Reins, Camp Fire, Juniper Group Sierra Club, and dozens more!

Thank you to all of the organizations that participated and to all the community members looking for places to donate their time and energy. We love fostering connection and community in and outside of the library. Keep an eye on our calendar for similar events throughout the year. 🥰

This Saturday! Join the library for a free workshop focused on three essential knots for outdoor adventures: the Bowline, Alpine, Butterfly, and Trucker’s Hitch. ⛓️‍💥

Participants will learn when and how to tie each knot, ensuring they are reliable and secure. The session also includes a photo talk about Jeska's upcoming Arctic expedition and lessons from past expeditions, followed by a Q&A. Participants will leave with practical knot-tying skills and a take-home reference guide (available in English and Spanish upon request).

They worked hard to get the Central Library ready to open to the public, and continue to do great work helping customers find what they need in this beautiful new building. One of the most common questions we get: “Central? Why is it called Central Library?” 👀

While the building isn’t located in the center of Bend, it is central to the region and helps connect library services across Deschutes County.

The new Central Library centralizes many library functions, allowing materials to move more quickly between all library locations in La Pine, Sunriver, Sisters, Redmond, and Bend while supporting the county’s largest collection and busiest library location. 📚

Nestled into the lobby of the main floor, you’ll find the same high-quality coffee and house-made pastries we’re known for, now paired with the quiet hum of a modern library built for gathering, learning, and spending time together.

Stop in for a quick coffee between errands, meet a friend, settle in with a book, or just hang around a little longer than planned. The space is bright, open, and thoughtfully designed. A natural extension of what libraries have always done best: bring people together.
