Danny Tenaglia 60th Birthday Tribute
Music by DeMi
Directed and Edited by @amrish_shah & Demi with special thanks to @redkimonomedia @lilrooms celebralteaze

I wanted to keep my notes brief. But then I thought it’s the 60th birthday of someone who means so much to me and to an entire club culture movement So ....(deep breath)
Scroll to comments πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ forPART 2 & 3

It's really impossible to put entirely into words here the this man’s influence on club culture.
He still is 60 years strong so uniquely talented as an artist and DJ who has singlehandedly inspired and transformed not only me, but the entire underground house and techno industry, catapulting it to what it is today. Validating fully his status as the DJ’s DJ.

The lineup itself speaks volumes already and no doubt there could have been an event to last a week with so many other cool cats who could show their own appreciation and gratitude, so I feel very honored and privileged to have been invited to contribute my own music montage for this. It was an adventure ride into my record collection to piece this one hour together. The set is not your conventional tribute set to play any obvious classics. But it's 100% in the spirit of Danny's ethos on what a DJ's role should be. To entertain and to educate. It's an art form to paint a music narrative with 2 decks and a mixer; an art form I continue to master and he is still one of the masters . It's what switched me onto him 21 years ago when he performed here in London at HOME. Giving him a couple of mix tapes shortly after in 2001 when we were to cross paths again led to my debut show with him in NYC on his home turf in late 2002; a sprightly, shaven head looking 24-year-old, playing on one of THE finest club Sound systems you can imagine.

A quick flashback story for you of that first show together.
Wanting to make an impression on such a big stage and with the fearless and at times foolish streak of a young Cypriot stallion πŸ˜‚ I had the idea of teasing the bass intro hook to 'Papa is Rolling Stone' by the Temptations and releasing it in all its original 12-minute glory.

We revisit one of the most celebrated entries in our back catalogue: Balance 013 mixed by SOS.

The β€˜Father of Balearic Chillout,’ Jose Padilla, likened Balearic music to β€œa sunset unfolding before your eyes.” If that’s true, this 3-disc masterpiece serves as its counterpointβ€”the final rays of sunlight dissolving into a night brimming with hedonistic potential.

Desyn, Omid, and Demi united as SOS in the mid-2000s to deliver a bold new Balearic take on the progressive sound. Their rise included sold-out SOS on the Thames boat parties, a world tour, Pioneer Pro DJ sponsorship, and a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. By the time they crafted Balance 013, expectations were high. Following Lee Burridge’s epic Balance 012, SOS knew they had to push boundariesβ€”and they delivered.

The trio harnessed emerging technologies to seamlessly fuse genres. The 80s chamber pop of Bryan Ferry, Cocteau Twins, and The Cure melted into the sleek tech and IDM of Kollektiv Turmstrasse, AFX, and Speedy J. Queen samples (The Real Life) flowed effortlessly into Meat Katie-style breaks (Sugar Cane - Once in a Lifetime) while an SOS edit of the Alessi Brothers’ β€˜Savin’ the Day’, from the Ghostbusters soundtrack, added even more playful twists.

Their audacious blend of 80s melancholy with the polished pulse of modern dance music made Balance 013 magnetic. SOS channeled the Balearic spirit into an avant-garde transmission that resonated just as strongly in San Francisco as it did at CafΓ© Del Mar, Ibiza. Critically acclaimed, the mix topped year-end lists and inspired DJ Mag to join them on tour.

Even today, the frequency of Balance 013 seduces as much as it did in 2008.

Feelingpositively giddyfrom my debut performance at the impressively assembled Secret Garden Party festival. @thesecretgardenparty

Playing a set that takes in the sunset and which moves into the night hours makes for a thrilling musical journey which is how the set inevitably flowed as we danced underthe night sky.
And sometimes you have to almost clear the floor to fill the floor too ;).

Security were having a grand old time and allowed the shed to stay open an extra 30minutes which was super cool of them to acknowledge .

A rework of Bowie’s β€˜Heroes’ which I finally had an opportunity to play out live along with a few other specially crafted edits for the occasion felt like they hit the right notes with a crowd in front of me that took in both the vibrant youth and the seasoned festival goers. It was a beautiful view to witness

Once again I have to thank both @aremarshall and Co founder extraordinaire @fred.fellowes.5 5 for entrusting me to close out the Secret Garden Shedareaon their opening night. It was my first time witnessing such an impressive spectacle.

The people have spoken. Here is a live segment from a recent gig at the @bookingoffice - located in the historic ticket hall of the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, reviving the original 19th-century railway booking area into a contemporary dining space where they also allow folk like me to soundtrack the evening.

Enjoy πŸ’–

Last few days have been a trip.
Spanking our north London rivals and then giving the current πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ champions and favourites for the Champions League a reminderthat we are ready for the challenge ahead. Two exceptional performances. Two exceptional victories.
Hopefully we can kick on and go that one step further and the team realise their potential for greatness

But there are two things about this experience that is treasured the most.

Following the team I love and grew up as a boy supporting and seeing them rise to their potential once again . And the precious time with my brothers to share that experience together. And soon with the nephews too :)

The bonus is when you happen to be on TV and you receive messages and reconnect with faces and friendsfrom yesteryear. The ✨ of ⚽️

510am!!! Quite simply. What a night under the disco ball. Enjoy the story posts of some of the little footage taken. Always a good sign 😜
From raving in my teenage years inside these walls that was the former Camden Palace in the late 90’s, seeing @prince perform twice here too back in 2014 (spot the T-shirt πŸ˜‰)and the privilege of working alongside this great man of music and my dear friend. And of course it was in London when I heard Danny play at those iconic two weekend shows at the former HOME club in Leicester Square 25 years ago. @dannytenagliaofficial

Congratulations to everyone who put this all together.
@layoandbushwacka @mrcsuperfreq Muzik Magainze @ralphusmoorus @benturnergraphite

Thank you @kokoelectronic .
What a fine way to wrap up the European tour for 2025.

See you for more in 2026 πŸ’₯😎 πŸͺ©
