SPATIAL ECONOMIC COMPASS | HEERLEN
Heerlen chooses growth.
With the adoption of the Spatial Economic Compass, the city commits to a coherent urban strategy. Heerlen is working towards a vibrant and attractive centre, with thelandscape as the foundation of its development into a green, healthy city centre: a place for residents, workers and visitors alike. A fertile ground for a vital urban economy and attractive, inviting and lively environment.
Together with @site_urbandevelopment and in close collaboration with the municipality of Heerlen and local stakeholders, DELVA developed the SEC as a strategic framework for the future of Heerlen’s city centre.
Rather than a fixed masterplan, the SEC introduces the idea of an ‘ex-centric centre’: a connected urban ecosystem where the qualities of the inner city, railway zone and surrounding landscapes complement and reinforce one another.
Building on Heerlen’s raw character, layered history and pioneering spirit, the strategy creates space for new energy, new programmes and new forms of urban life.
A centre not only for shopping and amenities, but for living, working, learning and meeting.

Team weekend | Eindhoven
We stepped away from the desk and into the field together in Eindhoven. Because everything begins with the base. Soil first.
With the planting season approaching, it becomes clear once again: real quality grows from the ground up. Healthy soil, strong roots, lasting results.
Good to be outside, hands in the earth, reconnecting as a team with what truly matters.

Not a flat ceiling in sight!
Great progress on the assembly of KJ Den Haag's double-curved timber ceiling, inspired by the city’s coastal dune landscape. Due to the ceiling curving in multiple directions, turning it into a buildable system required a project-specific design logic. The surface was mapped like topography, with isolines projected across it to make the geometry readable at full scale.
KJ Den Haag will become a new gateway to The Hague, introducing a new entrance hall for the central station, with two residential towers above, linked by a ‘green valley’ between them. On ground level, the square will include landscaping by @delva.la, a new restaurant pavilion, and a more fluid connection to Koekamp Park.

KNACK WEEKEND | INTERVIEW
In a recent interview with Steven Delva for Knack Weekend, the message is simple yet powerful: green is not an extra, it is the starting point.
Designing living environments is not about making something look beautiful. It is about creating places that feel right, for people and for ecosystems alike.
By working within the system, and at times pushing against it, landscape becomes more than an addition. It becomes the main driver.
DELVA strives to create a business case that enables biodiversity, water, and social quality to grow beyond what was initially asked for.
From restoring river meanders to integrating dune landscapes into architecture, projects show how rethinking the brief leads to entirely new outcomes.
And the next step is already visible.
A growing focus on mental well being, with space for calm, connection and restoration as an essential part of design.
A perspective that invites us to rethink how we shape the environments we live in.

DE CAAI | EINDHOVEN
It may well be the spot in Eindhoven where you can witness the most beautiful sunsets; de Caai.
We are celebrating our 5th construction start.
This time, it’s RISE’s turn. And it’s going to be a special one, because here, industrial heritage and new construction come together in a fascinating way.
@vb_groep is realising the residential building that shoots through the existing structure of the factory halls. All of this set amidst a green environment and right next to the future canal park.
The new residents met each other for the very first time and together embarked on an exploration of a possible layout for the entrance hall of RISE. This space will also take on a role as a place for residents, with possibilities for meeting, lingering, sports or a green purpose.

SILOKVARTEREN | VÄSTERÅS, SWEDEN
BIG WIN IN SWEDEN!
Team DELVA is proud to present the winning proposal for the redevelopment of the waterfront district in Västerås, Sweden.
The area will evolve into a lively urban neighbourhood: a connected piece of city on an active waterfront, shaped by new parks, welcoming public squares, and green streets.
This milestone marks a strong start for our presence in Stockholm and reinforces our long term commitment to sustainable urban development across the Nordic region.
Thank you to our partners and collaborators @aart_architects and @jmsverige for the trust and constructive cooperation. Silokvarteren is a strong example of what can be achieved through shared ambition and joint effort.

HOF VAN HEERLEN
It’s a win!
We proudly present Hof van Heerlen: the transformation of the former DSM site into a green, sustainable and inclusive living environment with more than 180 homes.
Wonen Limburg selected Laudy as its partner for the redevelopment of both the existing office building and the surrounding (residential) landscape. Decisive was an integrated vision in which spatial quality, the restoration of landscape qualities, social value and sustainability ambitions are inseparably connected. Within a multidisciplinary team, we developed a future-proof plan in which architecture and landscape together form a new urban ecosystem at the edge of the city centre. Radical greening, a high quality of life and social impact are not treated as conditions, but as driving forces.
DELVA reintroduces the landscape of the Geleenbeek to the residents of Heerlen’s city centre. A landscape that is inviting and robust, offering space for social interaction, biodiversity and climate adaptation. A threshold to the larger landscape beyond the city centre. In this way, a formerly monofunctional, paved site is transformed into a vibrant neighbourhood where living, nature and community reinforce one another.

KJ PLEIN | THE HAGUE
High-level visit at KJ!
Minister @sophietmhermans today received the findings of the Green on the Balance Sheet study. The research provides insight into the (financial) value of urban green space and demonstrates how investments in greenery lead to economic benefits and cost savings. The study was commissioned by VHG.
Sander van den Bosch elaborated on how DELVA’s projects; ‘KJ Plein’, de ‘Groene Entree’, and ‘het Haagse Bos’, contribute to The Hague’s green transition.

VEILINGTERREIN | VENLO
Improving the everyday lives of people means we aim to do more than design a sustainable neighbourhood — we shape a place where water, ecology, and community are intertwined.
At the Veilingterrein, the revived Molenbeek and a continuous green-blue axis guide rainwater through the district towards surrounding nature areas, forming new habitats for birds, insects, and plants. Along these same lines, collective gardens, local meeting spaces, and accessible walking and cycling routes invite movement, encounter, and wellbeing.
What emerges is a living system — one that transforms the everyday, connects north and south, and ties the new neighbourhood back into the wider ecological and cultural rhythm of Venlo.
