30 days of 30 paintings, wrapping up with the Flamingo paddle boats:)✨🦩🦩✨ Always a great challenge and thanks to @warriorpainters and @pleinairpril for putting this on, I’m sure it is a grandiose effort spanning continents and time zones.
I wanted to try painting in Gouache because I had received AllaPrima by Richard Schmid in sad circumstances as a fellow collector and friend passed away and upon viewing this book, I noticed great paintings that Richard had done in this media.
I have posted one page from his book, thanks for the inspiration Rebecca and Richard. Also included a glimpse at my setup for Gouache painting. I am glad I decided to step out of my comfort zone and attempt a new pigment, you never know until you try.
I began this one a few days early and got rained out, was lucky to get one more day with good light and shadow for this different perspective on the Flamingo paddle boat. Previous block in and completed painting in this reel. Appreciate all the comments and encouragement! Loved painting this one and the full range over the past month. Have a good weekend. 🙏Gouache on panel.

Day 29 of 30 paintings in 30 days overcast and cold Rubber duck paddle boat. 🤣 💛 This series of paintings of the paddle boat arrangement have been great to capture as paintings from observation. Contrast between water, moving objects, and the color palette that is produced are very fun and test the skills of painting en plein air.One more day of the @warriorpainters @pleinairpril bonanza. Love this one and the fisherman kid jumping over the dock in the vid was hilarious. Enjoy! Gouache on panel.

Day 28 of 30 paintings in 30 days Fairmount Cemetery #timelapsetuesday. Have been spending a good amount of time in this area, and have done oil painting at Fairmount previously. Walked the entire path searching for good light and dark patterns and went for this setup. The intriguing part about gravestones is the plethora of materials that they are hewn from. Granite, limestone, marble, sandstone, just to name of a few. The colors produced from this are always color challenges:) Last three days of the @warriorpainters @pleinairpril challenge. The linear aspects contrasting with organic shapes made this a painted from life winner in my eyes. Gouache on panel.

Day 27 of 30 paintings in 30 days Camarasaurus and Ceratosaurus at the Museum of Nature and Science.🦕 Ceratosaurus was not in this painting from life, but he’s down on the hunt for what I thought was a brachiosaurus or brontosaurus, I was mistaken. Another very windy day you can see in the video. Fun one to execute from observation, I take pride in setting up and challenging my self to tackle the elements, changing light, color mixing from values that are viewed and celebrating if it comes together:) Coming up on the last few paintings of this @warriorpainters @pleinairpril challenge. Always a thanks for putting this on and seeing what others produce. I might be an odd one out that I continuously do actual paintings from life, but that is always what I feel is true plein air painting. Love the way this one came together. 😀🎨 Gouache on panel.

Day 26 of 30 paintings in 30 days bronze Mastodon at the Museum of Nature and Science. Was such a windy day…. almost blew the pochade box over a few times. 🌬️ Titled the SnowMastodon as it was unearthed by archaeologists in Snowmass Village, Co. Museum crews found a number of other Ice Age animal species, you can read on the placard in this post. Fun one to execute from life, going in the fav category:) Gouache on panel.

Day 25 of 30 paintings in 30 days the Grizzly’s last stand. Donated by John McGuire to the Museum of Nature and Science in 1930. I did a large studio work of this sculpture before, but never a plein air painting from life. Dig the way this one turned out, another favorite. The gesture of protecting her cubs claws at the ready. Enjoy social media folks:) Gouache on panel.

Day 24 of 30 paintings in 30 days head of the paddle boat lineup is the Swan! 🦢 with Flamingo paddle boat behind. 🦩 Love this painting just as much as the dragon. Shadow pattern was a little obscured from the dock, but aimed to maintain the darks I had put in place for the block in. Always fun challenges painting from life. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did! Gouache on panel.

Day 23 of 30 paintings in 30 days Meeting of Minds sculpture at City Park golf course. 🧠 Working a little larger based on the composition and elements that I didn’t think would fit smaller scale. Tough perspective challenge. I knew that going in, was still a fun one. Gouache on illustration panel.

Day 22 of 30 paintings in 30 days Dragon paddle boat with flamingo boat! 🐉 🦩 Water breeze coming in from the lake as the sun sets. Fantastic painting in a few hours, hope you dig it:) Gouache on panel.

Day 21 of 30 paintings in 30 days how snow defines shapes. Two Schwinn BMX bikes outside of the residence were the subjects of falling snow and the shapes created. Weather was freezing but quickly melted, to the point where a good amount of the snow definition was lost in an instant. I enjoyed the fence contrasting the bright colors of the bicycles. Snow day painting from life. A challenging form lesson, fun stuff:) Gouache on panel.

Day 20 of 30 paintings in 30 days the last of the Civil war artillery array at City Park. The sea coast mortar is a site to see- value, edges, contrast and reflected sky light on a metal surface challenge. En plein air is a fun and a complicated endeavor to undertake. Enjoyed this one a lot, hope you do too:) Gouache on panel.
