Auslan90 Update: Thanks For Your Support 🌟

Today we’re sharing an update on Auslan90.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been outpouring of support from the community. Thank you to everyone who has shared messages, stories and support.

The Deaf Connect team has travelled to Canberra several times, meeting with Government, opposition, cross bench and media. Ministers and Departments have really understood the importance of Auslan90 – and they’ve seen all of your stories and messages.

While Auslan90 was not included in last night’s Federal Budget, we are still optimistic about finding a solution. Deaf Connect is in deep discussions with Government to identify funding pathways to continue Auslan90, and these have been really positive.

In the meantime, we want to say thank you. Thank you to every person, organisation and group who has sent messages explaining why Auslan90 matters. And thank you to the Ministers, advisors and government staff who have taken the time to understand why this critical service needs to continue.

When we know more, we will let you know.

Thanks for standing with us πŸ’™

NRS – New Funding in the Federal Budget πŸ™Œ

This week, the Government handed down the Federal Budget. From this, you would have seen some exciting news for our community!

The Federal Government has committed $15 million over the next three years to expand the National Relay Service to deliver 24/7 video relay services, including emergency calls.

With this expanded funding, the 24/7 Auslan Video Relay service means Deaf people can access video relay services anywhere, and importantly – ensures Deaf people can contact emergency services at any time.

This fills a crucial gap in community access that many organisations and individuals have advocated for over the years, led by Deaf Australia. We congratulate all involved in this advocacy!

We’re very pleased to see the Federal Government provide funding for this, and we look forward to supporting an expanded NRS.

Thank you.
