🚨ICYMI: Last Friday, DDOT, @downtowndcbid, and residents across the district celebrated 2026 Bike to Work Day, a nationwide annual initiative to promote cycling as a safe and reliable transit method and commuting choice.
Commuters got their gears turning early before work, as many of our designated pit-stops saw great turn-outs and participation from riders, businesses, and volunteers, including this one at Franklin Park. The weather was great and there was no shortage of free bicycle swag giveaways, breakfast snacks, prize raffles, and this year's coveted Bike to Work Day T-Shirts. As we continue to roll through May into warmer months, we encourage commuters to continue considering biking to and from work, and to look forward to next year's events.🌤️🚴♀️🚴♂️

ICYMI: See how DDOT's Urban Forestry Division spent Arbor Day 2026!
In a joint effort with Earth Conservation Corps and PEPCO, we were able to bring 20 more trees to Ward 8's Diamond Teague Park, one of the District's most meaningful green spaces. The placement of these trees are important, by helping stabilize the shoreline along the Anacostia River, and by providing shade and comfort for park and walkway visitors, as well as a habitat for local wildlife, for generations to come🌳🐢.

Earlier today, DDOT's Urban Forestry Division celebrated Arbor Day alongside friends from Earth Conservation Corps and PEPCO at Diamond Teague Park in Ward 8, by planting 20 new trees in one of the District's most meaningful green spaces. Half of the trees will be planted in the lower riparian zone to help stabilize the shoreline along the Anacostia River, while the remaining upland trees will provide shade and comfort for park and walkway visitors for generations to come.
This planting is part of DDOT's broader seasonal effort to add between 6,000 and 8,000 trees across all eight wards, advancing the District's goal of expanding tree canopy coverage from 37 percent today to 40 percent by 2032, a core target within the moveDC plan. A healthier tree canopy means lower summer temperatures, improved air and water quality, reduced stormwater runoff, and more walkable, livable streetscapes that encourage residents to choose active and sustainable ways to get around.
