It’s already the final week to visit 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘐'𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 at Kunsthal Gent, an exhibition curated by KASK's Curatorial Studies 2024–2025 participants, which I had the pleasure of being part of. The past few months now feel like a distant blur of voices, faces, and encounters, a whirlwind from which I’m slowly emerging, filled with gratitude and quiet joy.
"This exhibition didn’t grow out of the illusion that we can leave our baggage behind, but out of a sheer curiosity about how to carry it. And how we might hold space for the luggage of others. Because maybe the purpose of having other people in a room is to make your thoughts travel, to relinquish the complacency that comes with having an answer. The world is full of people quietly carrying the weight of conflict, displacement, systemic injustice, grief, loss and love. Together we tried to imagine Acker’s wall, not as a dead end, but as a surface to press against, to write on, or break through.
And sometimes, we find ourselves fighting our way out of the suitcase, escaping our needs for its comfort and we learn how to look at whatever shows up, as closely as possible, paying attention to what’s going on inside of us. To me, as curators, we enact small ceremonies of realism, we try to make space for what resists structure, for what leaks, as endings are only boring when they satisfy the conditions that asked for it.
Thank you for being here."
