Mayor David West
Mayor, City of Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill was the first stop in David and Tara’s Stronger Together Tour and wow, what a start. Honest conversations about how much we’ll need each other as climate emergencies increase and what that support looks like.
Together is the only way to face what’s coming. 💚

May 21 is Ontario Flag Day and June 1 is Ontario Day.
These are two important opportunities to pause and really appreciate the tremendous contributions that Ontarians make to Canada.
Ontario is home to almost 40% of the Canadian population, is the second largest province in size, and is home to our Nation's capital. But Ontario is more than statistics, for me, iti is home, the province I am grateful to live and work in, and I am happy to take a minute today to share that pride.
Happy Flag Day Ontario!

This morning we gathered with Richmond Hill faith leaders, residents, business leaders, and elected officials to share a morning grounded in unity, faith, and prayer.
Thank you to the organizers for your time and dedication to host this important event, it was an honour to join this 22nd annual Prayer Breakfast.
I am always filled with gratitude for the inclusive and welcoming community that exists in Richmond Hill, and events like this one are foundational in building and maintaining this respectful, kind, compassionate city.

This morning, it has been reported in the Toronto Star that the Yonge North Subway Extension could potentially be delayed. I will be investigating the details of this but Metrolinx has not yet advised Richmond Hill of any changed timelines.
I need to be clear – Richmond Hill has waited way too long for this extension to be complete. Any delay is totally unacceptable, especially at a time when the province has given us housing targets that rely on housing density to be met.Delays in this critical growth infrastructure would have a direct and substantial impact on Richmond Hill growth.
I will continue to advocate strongly to get this project done - full stop. Richmond Hill is growing and will continue to grow.A delay in this critical transportation infrastructure is unacceptable.

Advocacy for Richmond Hill is one of the essential responsibilities of the Mayor, in my opinion, and I continue to work tirelessly on behalf of our city and residents.
Health Care and Family & Children’s Services are just two of the many critical areas under provincial responsibility. I have had numerous discussions and meetings with fellow elected officials to ensure Richmond Hill’s priorities remain top of mind for our provincial partners.
It was a pleasure to meet Carmine Stumpo, Mackenzie Health's new President and Chief Executive Officer earlier this month and welcome him to Richmond Hill. I appreciated the opportunity to discuss the future of health care in Richmond Hill.
Thank you to Minister Parsa for his recent announcement in Richmond Hill together with the Associate Solicitor General for Auto Theft and Bail Reform, MPP Hamid and MPP Gallagher-Murphy.
I am grateful for the many strong relationships that have resulted from this effort.

May 1-7 was Youth Week in Ontario and I was reflecting on the important role that Richmond Hill play in building our vibrant city.
I am always so impressed with the students I meet in our city – whether at a Richmond Hill Youth Action Committee meeting, at a school visit to discuss Civics, or at the recent Mock UN that was held at Richmond Green High School. My Mayor for a Day contest is closed now, but the good ideas keep coming, and I love the passion that our youngest residents have for the green spaces, trails, and events that happen in Richmond Hill, just to mention a few.
Encouraging youth to take an active interest in municipal matters has always been very important to me, and I am really delighted that so many students are actively engaging in the topics of importance in Richmond Hill.
THANK YOU to all the students who are working to make our city the best it can be.

May 17 is recognized as the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.
This year, let's remember that being an ally is an active responsibility - a responsibility tostand up when needed, to challenge bias if we hear it, and to listen with an open heart.
Together we can achieve equity and equality and stop discrimination in all its forms.
This week at City Hall, Richmond Hill raised the MS Canada flag.
Thank you to the dedicated volunteers and community members who joined us, as well as MS Canada and Council.Together we acknowledged that although progress is happening, MS continues to be ‘Canada’s disease’. Right now here in York Region, a staggering 3500-3600 people live with MS.
