"Burnt Roots" (story of an olive tree) is out!
Bandcamp link in my bio
If you know me, you know I'm proud to be coming from Puglia, a region on the south-eastern coast of Italy. I feel particularly attached to the landscape I grew up in, which is characterized by the deep green canopies of olive trees, in stark contrast with the red of the soil and blue of the mediterranean sea.
Since October 2013, the xylella fastidiosa bacteria has started spreading in the region, killing more than 21 million olive trees to this day.
This epidemic is threatening the region's natural ecosystem and very identity, as people from Puglia have been living with and off of these trees for thousands of years. This has enormous consequences, that we'll only be truly able to grasp many years from now.
This album is a personal reflection on this disaster; not only of the many mistakes that have specifically brought us here, but about processing collective grief and loss of identity, and looking at the future and larger trend of where we are headed as a planet.
You can find the complete album on Bandcamp (link in my bio), and the first track is also going to be available on streaming platforms (sigh).
A special thanks to the featured musicians, for fully dedicating themselves to the music and embracing the process, I don't take it for granted.
Miranda Agnew - trumpet
Katie Webster - alto saxophone
Nika Ko - piano, electronics
David Macchione - bass, sampler
Alex Yoo - drums
Also huge thanks to Gerson Lazo Quiroga, for engineering the session and making everyone comfortable, and working overtime to have everything mixed and mastered and sounding good.
This is my first stab at an album cover too! I took the picture this summer at home, and fiddled around with the precious help of my brother Tobias ❤️
Thank you for listening!
