How the Ghoul came to be (Part 2)... A couple of later designs, with the one in the blue shirt being the final one they picked. I resculpted everything, this time on a neutral scan of Walton, then it was broken down and floated to create all the separate pieces. After the first test makeup the neck was resculpted one more time to reduce the tendons which moved weird. While it's generally true that scanning facilities using photogrammetry rigs don't offer the level of detail of some hand-helds, it doesn't mean that the technology of photogrammetry itself is inadequate. You have to keep in mind that these rigs and setups were never designed with the needs of prosthetic makeup in mind. The scans in this post were all done in photogrammetry with a rig I built from scratch for around $2k. Some might think that hand helds work right out of the box and deliver gorgeous detail with little effort. Far from true. We have been delivered scans done with the almighty Spider which were barely useable. The operator plays a big role in the quality of the scan.With a little bit of skill and knowledge, photogrammetry is a versatile solution for many scanning needs and requires a minimal investment. All you need is a half decent camera and a computer and you can scan anything, from dentures to statues, even buildings.
