46th Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco
Today, I am excited to announce our Family Opportunity Agenda. We are going to be relentless in our drive to make our city more affordable for families in San Francisco.
Starting this month, a family of four making less than $230,000 a year will qualify for free child care at hundreds of high quality providers across the city.
And by this fall, those earning up to $310,000 a year will receive a 50% subsidy.
Our plan also expands opportunities for our students.
In partnership with SFUSD, we’re launching a new pilot that allows high school students to earn associate degrees or industry certifications at City College—with a guaranteed transfer to SF State University. This will help them become nurses, police officers, Pre-K teachers, auto technicians, chefs, and more.
We’re committed to making San Francisco a place where families can stay, grow, and build their future. This is just the beginning. Let’s go, San Francisco.
San Francisco is a city on the rise. This past year, we made strong progress on safer streets, our economic recovery, and a government focused on results. I spoke with ABC’s @jonkarl about what’s changed—and how we’ll keep delivering for San Franciscans.
Citywide crime is down almost 30%, car break-ins are down 44%, and homicides are at lows we haven’t seen since the 1950s. We still have more work to do, but these stats are a sign that we are heading in the right direction. Thank you to @sfpdofficial and everyone who keeps our city safe.
This speed camera right here helped reduce speeding by 98%. One year ago, we launched 33 automated speed cameras in San Francisco, and the results are clear: dangerous speeding is down nearly 80% citywide. Public safety has always been my top priority, and that means people who walk, drive, bike, or take public transit should feel safe. These speed cameras are making our streets safer in neighborhoods across our city.
We just wrapped up a successful day in Sacramento, meeting with state leaders to discuss funding for our social safety net.
San Francisco faces a nearly $1 billion structural budget deficit worsened by federal and state cuts, and I am fighting to secure the support our city needs to protect residents’ health care and essential services.
Thank you to Speaker of the California State Assembly Robert Rivas, Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón, Assembly Budget Chair Jesse Gabriel, and Senate Budget Chair John Laird for speaking with me today.

Today I am in Sacramento to advocate for state dollars that fund critical services in our city. This includes funding for homelessness and housing programs, health care, and shelter. Right now, San Francisco still faces a significant structural budget deficit, made worse by federal and state cuts that are driving our budget gap to nearly $1 billion in the coming years. With federal cuts threatening health care for our residents, I am fighting to make sure our city gets the support it deserves so that no one is left behind.
San Francisco is expanding and upgrading free wifi at 3 major parks in our city:
- Washington Square Park
- Mission Dolores Park
- Alamo Square Park
That is in addition to the upgrades we have already made across the city, including Union Square, Dragon’s Gate and Chinatown, and Crocker Amazon.
Next time you are out enjoy our beautiful city, look for #SFWIFI to stay connected!
The 115th running of Bay to Breakers brought 30,000 people to the streets San Francisco starting at our eastern waterfront on the Bay and making our way to Ocean Beach. I made it as far as Golden Gate Park, but the energy was electric with fun costumes and live music along the way. This is San Francisco at our best. Let’s go, San Francisco.
The Richmond Night Market brought out neighbors to Clement Street. The sun is out and our city is shining. I hope you all have a great Saturday.
One City Day is coming soon 👀
This is a citywide day of service led by my wife and first lady, Becca Prowda, and we want you to join us. Volunteer opportunities will be available in all 11 districts, giving you the chance to make a difference in your community. Sign-ups for projects drop on May 29th. Visit sf.gov/one-city-day for more information.
Let’s go, San Francisco!
A new report from the city’s controller reaffirms that our economy is turning the corner.
- Jobs and job applications are growing.
- Unemployment is coming down.
- Downtown transit ridership has reached post-pandemic highs.
- Office vacancies are declining.
- Foot traffic is steadily recovering.
Our economy is coming back, but we are not out of the woods. Our recovery is still fragile, and we still have a significant structural budget deficit exacerbated by federal and state cuts, driving our budget gap to $1 billion in the coming years.
My job as mayor is to set up our city for success, not just today, but for years to come. I am laser focused on delivering a responsible budget that prioritizes core services, protects our social safety net, and ensures a broad, lasting economic recovery.
Have you seen this chicken at Il Pollaio? Since 1984, Paula’s family has owned this North Beach hidden gem. There were plenty of locals eating lunch inside who, of course, recommended the chicken, so I had to give it a try. It was delicious. Thank you, @ilpollaiosf!
