This Wednesday: Future Mythologies is a celebratory showcase for new works in development that aspire to redefine the future of storytelling, and become the myths of tomorrow.

Joining us this Wednesday, we have MIIIA (@miiia_n3zha ) in their first live presentation of “Ashes of Time”, inspired by Wong Kar Wai’s work and classic Asian cult cinema. Through slow movements, shadows, and ritual-like gestures, it displays the connections between memory, longing, and devotion, as well as one’s internalizations about power, fate, and desire. Their performance will also feature visual work by Melt (@melt.a.way ). Following will be live performances from 8ULENTINA (@8ulentina ) and Embaci (@embaci ).

⚠️Flashing lights⚠️ [Free/by donation] Tonight, Speaker Music aka DeForrest Brown, Jr. ,will be presenting a live quadraphonic version of his album, “Synoptic Audio.”

The performance is followed by a talk back moderated by Vanessa Kwan, Director and Curator of Libby Leshgold Gallery.

Before the performance there will also be an artist talk with Animistic Beliefs moderated by Vanessa Fajemisin.

About Speaker Music
DeForrest Brown, Jr. is an Alabama-raised, Ex-American rhythmanalyst, writer, musician, and curator.

As Speaker Music, Brown, Jr. has released three albums on Planet Mu. His debut book Assembling a Black Counter Culture (2022) was published by Primary Information. In 2023, he co-curated HOPE at Museion (Bolzano), the concluding exhibition in the TECHNO HUMANITIES trilogy.

Brown’s work has been presented at institutions including the Venice Biennale Musica 2025, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Paris+ par Art Basel, Somerset House Studios (London), and Performa Biennial (New York). He has taught and lectured at Simon Fraser University, NYU, The New School, Harvard, Brown, and Princeton.

Recent collaborations include metanarrative liner notes for Cybotron, Drexciya, and Dopplereffekt developed with Detroit techno pioneers Juan Atkins and Gerald Donald with Berlin club/record label Tresor.
