From spotlighting patient stories to winning hard-fought victories in Albany, the #EndMedicalDebt campaign is changing lives — one patient, one policy, one fight at a time.
In just 5 years, we’ve seen a 99.8% decline in the number of medical debt lawsuits filed by hospitals and a 78% decline in the proportion of New Yorkers with medical debt in collections on their credit reports.
What we’ve achieved in New York, alongside grassroots organizations across the state, is a blueprint for how other states can protect their patients in the years ahead.

We hit the streets to show how two identical buildings in very different neighborhoods are taxed unfairly.

NYC’s tax system has been fueling inequality for decades, charging Black homeowners and renters more, while giving luxury condos a break.

Our new report shows how we got here—and how to fix it. Link in bio.

On July 1st of this year, nearly half a million New Yorkers will lose their Essential Plan health insurance coverage due to federal health care cuts.

For as little as $393 million a year, the State can ensure these New Yorkers keep their access to health insurance in the final budget. The funding for this proposal has already been supported by over 75 New York legislators.

The time is NOW for @govkathyhochul to allocate these funds in the final state budget. Join us in calling on her to protect the health of New Yorkers. Comment “healthcare” and take action today.

⌛️ We still have time to protect more than 450,000 New Yorkers from losing health coverage. We have a healthcare crisis on our hands thanks to Republicans in DC. Albany needs to fix it.

@govkathyhochul , health aides, restaurant workers, delivery drivers, and working parents raising young families are counting on you.

Nearly 500,000 people will lose health coverage this summer if New York fails to act. Don’t let federal cuts jeopardize the safety of families and communities across the state.

You've created a contingency fund to protect us from federal health care cuts. @nysenatorrivera and Assemblymember @amypaulin1 have put forward a plan to keep these New Yorkers covered. You have the tools and resources.

Please act now to protect our health care.

As budget negotiations continue, we are standing together to protect health coverage for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who are about to lose it. I joined Assemblywoman @amypaulin1 and more than 75 legislators to send a letter to the Governor urging action to fund access to affordable health coverage in this year’s budget. Our bill, S9589/A10926, would address this looming crisis. Madam Governor, the time is now to protect New Yorkers’ health.

For six years, rents in rent‑stabilized apartments have kept climbing while wages have fallen further behind.

Even the Rent Guidelines Board’s own data shows landlord profits continue to grow year after year.
Samuel Stein, Housing Policy Analyst at the Community Service Society of New York, breaks down why another increase is simply unaffordable.

Our survey of rent‑stabilized tenants in New York City shows the reality on the ground: nearly two‑thirds can’t make ends meet right now.

New Yorkers are saying it loud and clear:it’s time to freeze the rent!

New York has long been a trailblazer in expanding access to health coverage, because our leaders understand that health care is fundamental to a thriving economy and society. But the state is now poised to let health coverage lapse for nearly half a million New Yorkers.

The fact is, we have both the resources and workable solutions to prevent this. Our leaders in Albany must stay true to our principles and act now, urgently and decisively, to protect health coverage.
