Last night, I finished my last workout in prep for the @nycmarathon
The sun had set, it was windy, chilly and starting to drizzle.
At that moment, it hit me. I've known all along, but last night it really hit me as I was cooling down on a wet track.
Months ago, long before I even told anyone this was a thought or goal, I decided to sign up for the NYCM as a way to pull myself out of a rut. In the small ways, in the big ways and in every way that mattered.
I needed a goal that seemed unattainable. One that didn’t feel achievable. One for a time where I really needed running but couldn’t comprehend the idea of racing again.
I signed up looking for structure and focus, but I found something else. A truth.
What truth? To always bet on yourself.
The journey has taught me a lot about commitment with the goal of showing up every day and moving forward step by step. It taught me that learning the good stuff is usually right alongside living through the hard stuff.
There is a lot to celebrate in getting to the finish line on race day, but I’ve already won. What will get me to Central Park is nothing compared to what got me to the start line.
