ICE Alert in Louisiana Creole (Kouri Vini) & Louisiana French (Cajun) on Substack‼️
https://open.substack.com/pub/creolepolyglot/p/ice-alert
Open to anyone of sub-Saharan African descent who’s ancestors were deported from Africa as a part of the slave trade
iShowSpeed + Bénin Citizenship
The main thing you need is proof of Afro-descent for someone born before 1944 in an area where enslaved Africans were deported. If for example that person is your grandparent & their race/ethnicity is listed on their birth certificate, it’s enough to get official copies of their birth certificate, your parent’s & your own
Genotyping tests (23&Me, Ancestry, etc) & other commercial DNA tests (like African Ancestry) are optional, secondary evidence that you can include, if you want. You can’t apply with these tests only instead of official records, but if for example, you can’t get your parent’s vital records, you could use a dna test to show you’re related to your grandparent to help bridge that gap
Once you’re approved, you have to travel to Benin to finalize the process
If you already have another African citizenship, you’re not eligible
Go to https://myafroorigins.bj/ to apply!
*this is what I know based on reading the website, the application form, emailing them questions & chatting with applicants, but you should still verify for yourself, since the rules could change

Great New Resource‼️
The Dictionary of Louisiana Creole (DLC) is a great written resource many of us swear by cuz it includes quotes from native speakers, which lets us know the context so we understand how words are supposed to be used. One person committed the past 3 years to adding all the documented vocab we got from native speakers that was used in the Ti Liv Kréyol & the DLC to an Anki (flashcard app) deck. It’s really well-organized & even has a IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) pronunciation guide!
Join us on Discord for more, we always around to answer questions & do regular conversation practice!

A few things to consider before leavin the US
You will def need your birth certificate & maybe a background check for some jobs & other situations, but you only need an apostille/authentication for the most official things, like becomin a citizen. Maybe not such a priority now, but if you can afford to get it, it might come in handy in the future!
What vital records you can order & how you order them depends on the city, the type of record & how old it is
Medical records shouldn’t need to be apostilled/authenticated, but it couldn’t hurt to include professional qualifications like diplomas!
It’s gettin harder to get & keep a US passport, esp at a time when anyone can be grabbed of the street, no ID check, no matter how many generations deep into citizenship
The actress is Nigerian-British, but the character is from Louisiana & from what I can make out it sounds like she’s sayin “kor pa jamé bliyé” - good to see a darkskin Louisiana Creole character represented in media for once, esp positive representation!
A few tips in Louisiana Creole for anyone thinkin bout leavin the US for safety reasons
