Hiiii! For the new friends here — here's what we do!
Create! Magazine has been championing rising contemporary artists since 2013 (back when we were FreshPaintMagazine). We rebranded in 2016 and have been passionate about art and independent publishing ever since. A magazine, a podcast, a membership community, a Substack, pop-up exhibitions, and a sister gallery @pxpcontemporary run by curator Alicia Puig @puigypics — all of it built for rising contemporary artists, curators who care, and creative business owners making things happen.
Founded by @katerinaspopova.

When life gets busy or business gets challenging, the absolute last thing we think to do is step into the studio to make art. We look at our never-ending to-do lists, the deadlines, and the backend pressures, and we put our personal practice on the back burner.
But recent research suggests that the calm, clarity, and care we need most comes exactly from the act of creating.
Over the past few months on the Create! Podcast, we’ve spoken with incredible guests who back up this exact idea: art-making isn't just for exhibition programming or chasing sales.
It is a radical act of self-care and actual medicine for a busy mind.
In this week's Substack post, I’m divinginto the neurobiology of studio time, the "Fifth Pillar" of health, and why letting go of outcome-driven making saved my own practice recently.
Grab a cup of tea and read the full essay at the link in our bio. 🌿✨

This week, we’re thrilled to spotlight longtime member Erin Kuhn @peachf0x—an inspiring artist whose journey inside @createcollectivehq shows the power of creative community.
“After art school, joining Create! Collective was the best investment I’ve made in my career. I just received the FY26 Individual Artist Fellowship Grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, have a solo show coming this fall, and landed my dream job as an art handler. None of it feels coincidental—the resources, community, and confidence Kat has built here are truly career-changing. I am deeply grateful.” —Erin Kuhn @peachf0
Erin is just one of the many ambitious, talented, and generous artists who make our Create! Collective art family so special.
This summer, dive into our studio immersion series, access hundreds of sessions on everything from pricing to grants, enjoy live monthly calls, and connect in our private member area. Ready to grow your art career? Join us—link in bio or visit createmagazine.co/collective.
Erin Kuhn is an interdisciplinary mixed-media artist whose early childhood fostered a deep reverence for the fine arts. She crafted her own looms, crushed pigments to make paint, and learned hands-on techniques while watching her mother make baskets. From a young age, Erin was passionate about exploring artistic tools and processes.

@catie_cook_art on view at @squareone.gallery
Catie Cook is a St. Louis-based painter whose work explores the visual culture of the American South, including church pageantry, debutante traditions, and beauty pageants. Influenced by her background as the daughter of a scenic designer, her paintings incorporate theatrical elements, where drapery, lighting, and composition craft scenes that feel both carefully staged and subtly artificial.
We’re thrilled to present Catie’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery, “For Sport,” where she examines her experiences of girlhood through the lens of performance.
Drawing from the art historical tradition of the hunt and representations of Diana, Cook guides viewers through glimpses of a faux hunt where violence is intentionally hidden. Her dogs snarl and leap through the scenes, and she weaves uncanny narratives filled with themes of control, beauty, and artifice.

A body translated into image, where sensation becomes structure
Cassie Rae Bledsoe @de.fluence is featured in Issue 56, our annual International Women’s Issue, presenting figurative works shaped by the experience of chronic pain and the shifting relationship between body and mind.
“These works are not just images; they are epitaphs for the edges of the human condition.”
Through distortion, emotional intensity, and visceral mark making, her paintings confront the space between physical reality and psychological perception.
