Dr. Meltem Ege is a Turkish jazz vocalist, composer, and academic whose work as a performer has earned her recognition and acclaim in the international music community, with notable honors such as first-place wins at the Nardis Jazz Club (Turkey, 2006), the Lady Summertime International (Finland, 2007) and the International Jazz Voices (Lithuania, 2008) voice competitions. Over the past two decades, Meltem has performed as a featured soloist with countless big bands and symphony orchestras, headlining jazz festivals and concert halls across the globe.

Her latest album Solitude is a contemporary vocal jazz album featuring a guitar trio, string quartet, and small horn section. Comprised entirely of original compositions, the album reflects her path between her two homes—Turkey and California–carrying the pulses of both lands and existing in the space between.

Now based in Los Angeles, Meltem combines her classical piano background and her jazz vocal expertise—having earned degrees from Bilkent University in Turkey and Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA—with her doctoral studies in experimental music and theater at the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts to create and perform works that run the gamut from spoken word to experimental opera. She is currently full-time faculty at the Herb Alpert School of Music at the California Institute of the Arts.

Belle’s Cargo is a band made up of homies who like to hang out and sing songs that feel fun and sweet and true. With sounds rooted in folk story telling, southern twang, and a little bit of rock n roll; Belle’s Cargo features Nick Krauel, Monica Williams, Jacob Wolff and CRAWLSPACE LA co-founder Lena Martin.
This show will be their premiere as a band, and an acting homage to the home and community that is CRAWLSPACE LA❤️

Blossom is a singer, songwriter, and rapper blurring the lines of what hip hop and r&b. With her mix of vocals and rhyme over melodic beats her music is pretty laid back in nature while sharing detailed stories, relative thoughts and ultimately using her music as her diary. 
Making up the band we have Andrew Bedows on keys, Ghadban on guitar and Benneyy (aka benneyybeatz who is the producer of many of the originals you will hear tonight) on drums.

Nia MacKenzie Scovel is a multifaceted artist born in Santa Fé, New Mexico, raised in the heart of San Francisco, living in Los Angeles. Attending Westlake School for the Performing Arts from age 4-18, She was heavily trained in classical ballet the majority of her life alongside other dance styles, including contemporary, modern, jazz, hip hop, hula, and tahitian.
Having a diverse training background set her up for curiosity, wonder, and eagerness to learn. By the age of 17, she started treating her ballet practice as a key factor for her training and conditioning, and no longer a career goal.
Once graduating high school, she geared up to start her journey at California Institute of the Arts, where she began to strongly focus on immersing herself in contemporary practices while tending to her hip hop training she gained back home.
While ballet remained prominent in her training, she started to hold space for her individualized style and practice. Beginning to find her voice in her second year at CalArts while gearing up for her first solo showing of what she wants to start sharing as an artist. Not only until her CalArts did she start to come into her own and embrace what was hers, while also starting to question the sense of individuality, and performance within day to day life to fit a certain mold. In her eyes, she grew up wondering how she could explain where she is from, this still remains the question and it has turned into the most beautiful exploration and struggle in her work. During 2020, Nia went through a career altering injury, where in a time where movement was not possible, she began to think, wonder, write, and question. When finally beginning to dance again, she brought in her spirit she feels is with her constantly, and in this practice she will be sharing a dance that to the naked eye, she is alone. She is not.

Gabrielle Civil makes performances, writes across art forms, and revels in her secret life. Her recent performances include Recess with Silvi Naçi in LA, Black Weirdo School (Pop Up Critique) in Portland, and Jupiter online. She recently danced in Fox Whitney’s LOOK/OUT ensemble in Seattle and her latest performance memoir In & Out of Place documents her time living/creating in Mexico. Foundress of the Black Weirdo School, she is currently developing gestures for Black Weirdo School Psychic Defense Club. The aim of her work is to open up space.

Jacob Wolff is an artist, performer, composer and director from Long Beach, CA, currently based in Los Angeles. His work centers on deconstructing the operatic form through solo and ensemble performances, often incorporating improvisation and blending various disciplines.  He is particularly interested in what emerges when performers engage with unfamiliar or non-institutional practices, fueling his research into amateurism most notably through celebrity impersonators and into performance traditions that rarely appear in contemporary art spaces. Past pieces include “Ribs” (2023), “My Blue Raspberry” (2024), “Proposal” (2025), and “BEG” (2025). These works aim to explore and dismantle the dynamics between audience and performer, as well as the relationships with the spaces they inhabit. Wolff received his BFA from the California Institute of the Arts and has shown work at REDCAT, Stomping Ground LA, Electric Lodge, Highways Performance Space, and other galleries and DIY spaces in the greater Los Angeles area.

SPARE CHANGE exists to bring people together in the name of experimentation, performance, community, conversation and mutual aid. With a focus on presenting performance and movement works that are in a developmental stage, so that artists have the space to experiment and be in conversation about their process.

⭐️For this iteration we are doing a food drive for Dawah Delivery run thru @midnightbooksla collecting non perishables for families affected by ICE raids
