The 2026 #FarmBill just cleared the House Agriculture Committee — and it's a setback for farmed animals, states' rights, and common sense.

Our Head of Farmer Advocacy & Policy, Julia Johnson, was quoted in @thenewlede, breaking down what's at stake: the bill would strip states like California and Massachusetts of their ability to protect animals from the most basic forms of suffering.

As Julia put it — we're not asking for much. The ability for a pig to turn around. To lie down. To take a few steps. That's it.
The pork industry calls this "regulatory relief." We call it what it is: corporate interests overriding the will of voters and the basic well-being of animals.

The Supreme Court already upheld California's Prop 12 in 2023. Now Congress wants to undo that progress.

This fight isn't over. The bill still faces a full House vote — and then the Senate. 🐷

Fish are the most consumed animal on the planet, yet they receive the least protection. Industrial fishing and factory fish farms cause suffering on a massive scale — and the health of our oceans and waterways pays the price too.

When we protect fish, we protect entire ecosystems. Healthy fish populations mean healthy oceans. And healthy oceans mean a healthier planet for all of us.

Ending factory farming is non-negotiable for a healthy planet. 🌎

This industry fuels climate change, pollutes our waterways, and consumes vast resources. We must transition now.💚

JUST IN: A "nonpartisan" think tank has been quietly publishing op-eds opposing state animal welfare laws, namely the #SaveOurBaconAct — without mentioning that its chairman is a top lobbyist for the National Pork Producers Council.

@TheNewLede just broke the story. The Carver Center for Agriculture & Nutrition bills itself as independent and research-driven. But its chairman is also the VP of strategic engagement at @NPPC — the organization leading the industry's campaign against laws like California's Prop 12 and Massachusetts' Question 3. That connection was left out of every public-facing publication after the group's very first essay.

The op-eds appeared in major publications like the @LATimes and the @BostonHerald, timed perfectly to the Farm Bill debate in Congress. The language in those pieces? Nearly identical to NPPC press releases.

"It is a disinformation campaign — designed to confuse the public, delay reform, and protect some of the cruelest practices in factory farming," said CIWF Executive Director @Matthew_t_dominguez.

The Senate is now deciding the fate of the #FarmBill. People deserve to know who is trying to shape that decision — and why.
