Local lad trying to show anyone that no matter your circumstances, never stop believing. Thank you so much @brixtonblog for the interview and coverage. Still BUZZING!

You have to decide what you wish to do.

The Art Of Noise - Moments In Love LIVE 1986

Caption:
I came across this gem again that I haven’t listened to in a while and it just got me wondering, is this a trip hop record? Because it really does have all the elements to it. The slow hypnotic groove, cinematic atmosphere, sensual mood, layered textures, downtempo pacing, experimental production and emotional depth all feel years ahead of what would later become known as trip hop. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Originally released by Art of Noise in 1983, “Moments In Love” became one of the most influential electronic compositions of the decade. Produced during the golden age of sampling technology alongside legendary producer Trevor Horn, the track blended ambient textures, drum machine rhythms, orchestral emotion and minimalist repetition in a way that felt futuristic for its time.

Long before artists like Massive Attack, Portishead or Tricky helped define trip hop in the 90s, “Moments In Love” already carried many of the same sonic characteristics. It moved away from straightforward pop structures and leaned into mood, atmosphere and feeling. You can even hear traces of ambient, chillout, downtempo, Balearic and future electronic music throughout it.

This particular live performance from Tokyo in 1986 is something special. There’s a haunting elegance to it that feels timeless. The VHS textures, washed out colours and dreamlike visuals somehow make the music hit even harder. It feels less like a performance and more like drifting through a memory.

A lot of people call this one of the most sampled and influential electronic tracks ever made and honestly it’s easy to hear why. Decades later it still sounds futuristic, emotional and completely unique.

Morcheeba - Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day

(Live on Later With Jools Holland 2000)

One of the smoothest live performances to come out of the turn of the millennium. Morcheeba bringing that timeless blend of trip hop, soul, downtempo and psychedelic groove to Later With Jools Holland back in 2000. Skye Edwards’ voice floating over those warm guitars and dusty beats still hits different all these years later.

“Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day” came from the Fragments Of Freedom era, a period where Morcheeba really perfected that mellow but emotional sound they became known for. Watching performances like this reminds me why that late 90s and early 2000s scene still carries so much weight today. No gimmicks, just atmosphere, musicianship and feeling.

Big respect to everyone archiving and preserving these moments because performances like this deserve to keep circulating for newer generations discovering trip hop, chillout and downtempo music.

Tricky featuring Martina Topley-Bird – Hell Is Round the Corner

(Live at T in the Park 1995)

Raw and hypnotic live footage of Tricky performing “Hell Is Round the Corner” alongside Martina Topley-Bird at the second T in the Park festival in 1995. This performance captures the dark, atmospheric energy that made Tricky one of the most groundbreaking artists to emerge from the Bristol scene during the 90s. Martina’s haunting vocals combined with Tricky’s intense presence create a powerful moment that still feels timeless today. According to the video description, this was the only Tricky track shown on the STV highlights programme from the festival.

The Herbaliser - Sensual Woman (Live at Ninkasi Kao, Lyon 2008)

Caption:
A smoky late night groove from one of the coldest live acts to come out of the UK underground. The Herbaliser bringing raw hip hop jazz funk and cinematic energy to Lyon back in 2008. Still sounds timeless and still hits different through headphones after midnight.

Respect to everyone keeping these rare live moments alive online.

Lamb-Gorecki (On the Road with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta)

A hauntingly beautiful journey through sound and emotion, blending the timeless power of Górecki inspired composition with the cinematic atmosphere of this documentary. The Amsterdam Sinfonietta bring a raw elegance to the performance, capturing life on the road through intimate moments, movement, and music that feels both fragile and immense.

Originally inspired by Henryk Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”, Lamb transformed classical emotion into one of the most iconic trip hop recordings of the 90s. This documentary performance with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta adds another layer of depth and humanity to an already transcendent piece.

Hooverphonic - 2 Wicky (Ancienne Belgique 2005)

There’s something about early trip hop that still feels untouched. The slow burn drums, the haunted space between the vocals, the weight of the bass sitting underneath everything like smoke in a dark room. Hooverphonic always carried that cinematic feeling without forcing it. This performance of 2 Wicky pulls me straight back into that late night headphone era where trip hop, downtempo and noir electronics all felt connected to the same world. Still one of those tracks that says more in atmosphere than most songs say in words.

Smoke City - Underwater Love (1997) Live

A timeless live performance from Smoke City capturing the hypnotic blend of trip hop, acid jazz, bossa nova and downtempo grooves that defined the late 90s underground scene. Originally released in 1995, Underwater Love became a global cult classic after appearing in the iconic Levi’s advert in 1997, helping the track reach the UK Top 5 and introducing Smoke City’s unique Brazilian inspired sound to a wider audience. Fronted by Nina Miranda’s haunting vocals, the song remains one of the most recognisable chillout tracks of its era and a staple of 90s trip hop culture. 🌊✨

Smoke City fused Brazilian rhythms with dub, jazz and electronic textures, creating a sound often compared alongside Massive Attack, Morcheeba and Everything But The Girl. This live version perfectly captures the dreamy atmosphere and sensual groove that made the track unforgettable.

Rare live footage of Faith No More performing “Stripsearch” during their reunion era at Area4 Festival in Germany, filmed at Flugplatz Borkenberge near Münster and broadcast by WDR. Mike Patton and the band brought a hypnotic atmosphere to this performance, blending the dark trip hop textures and experimental rock sound that made “Stripsearch” one of the standout tracks from Album of the Year.

A seriously underrated moment from one of the most fearless bands of their generation.
