One year ago today I received word that my dear friend Sacha Jenkins had passed. I had plans to visit him that morning with Rob CES when the tragic news came in. Sacha and I shared a deep connection - through music, art, publishing, graffiti, and our weekly Saturday basketball game, as well as an endless circle of friends that always seemed to overlap.Our lives were intertwined in countless ways, both personally and professionally. He was my; friend, neighbor, colleague, co-author, co-curator, and co-conspirator. For nearly three decades, I was quietly enrolled in “Sacha Jenkins University.” I can’t think of another adult who taught me more valuablelife lessons. Within in graffiti circles, he is perhaps best remembered for his film “Stations of the Elevated” (1981) , a 45 minute subway symphony he produced, directed and edited. While working on a poster for Charlie Ahearn’s film “Jamal Shabazz Street Photographer” (2013) someone at Oscilloscope Films mentioned they just digitally remastered the footage, and asked if I could help identify some of the graffiti. The following year I was invited to interview Manny at the Museum of the City of New York. When the interview was over, Manny whispered “This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever done, let’s do more”. Manny later invitedme to sit with him at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York Film Forum and to interview LEE for the extra contents segment (Writers Bench) on his new release.

It is with great sorrow I announce the passing of my dear friend Manfred Kirchheimerr. Manny was a documentary film maker, and professor of film at the School of Visual Arts here in New York City. Within in graffiti circles, he is perhaps best remembered for his film “Stations of the Elevated” (1981) , a 45 minute subway symphony he produced, directed and edited. While working on a poster for Charlie Ahearn’s film “Jamal Shabazz Street Photographer” (2013) someone at Oscilloscope Films mentioned they just digitally remastered the footage, and asked if I could help identify some of the graffiti. The following year I was invited to interview Manny at the Museum of the City of New York. When the interview was over, Manny whispered “This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever done, let’s do more”. Manny later invitedme to sit with him at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York Film Forum and to interview LEE for the extra contents segment (Writers Bench) on his new release.

In 2013 while giving @ceyadams , @erichazenyc and Adam (Ad Rock) a tour of the “Write of Passage” show I was working on at Redbull Studios, Adam mentions he has an Ad Rock canvas that Dondi painted for him in 1987, then proceeds to pull a rolled up canvas from his back pocket and unfolded it on the floor. He suggested we display the painting in our exhibit, which we did. In April of 2014 Adam decided to donate the painting back to Dondi’s Estate. The exchange was made at @janettephoto ‘s studio 10 years ago today. Cartoonist/Author Ed Piskor was there. He personalized a copy of his book “Hip-Hop Family Tree” and gifted it to Adam. Sadly the world lost #EdPiskor on April 1, 2024 ✨🕊️✨

Last December @asend_one , @indeliblefunk and I traveled to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Pearl of the Arabian Gulf, an island country situated between Qatar and the northeastern coast of Saudi Arabia. We were in town to conduct a workshop with local artists, and to create a mural celebrating the 51st National Day of the Kingdom of Bahrain 🇧🇭. The initiative was made possible by Next Level’s Hip-Hop diplomacy program, in conjunction with U.S. Department of State, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Meridian International.
