At a sold-out @BrooklynParamount for the 2nd edition of the NYC shoegaze @SlideAwayFest, it was wonderful to see Reading, England-originated shoegaze/dreampop greats @Chapterhouse.Official play their first NYC show in 16 years with the 3-guitar attack from founding members Andrew Sherriff 🎤 🎸 Stephen Patman 🎤 🎸 (joined by Joe Light @JoesPedals 🎸 filling on this tour for @RoweMan1969) & dynamic 🥁 @AshleyBatesInsta (I was fortunate to see their brief reunion at The Bell House then with new bassist Greg Moore) and only their second NYC appearance since the original lineup disbanded in 1994, at the start of a May North American tour to celebrate the 35th anniversary of excellent debut LP Whirlpool, featuring the wah-wah groove and swirling melodies of @120Revisited hit "Falling Down".

Ashley and Stephen; Andy and possibly his fellow sound designer colleagues. I think this was from an event where they attended on behalf of @adelphoimusic in mid 2010s? Not sure as these were recently found sitting in my old files from 2016-2017 where I was in a full-blown fan girl mode as a teenager who just discovered @chapterhouse.official (and later created a page for them in 2018 haha)... ahh, I can't believe I've been running this account for 8 years! 💗

Byrds, Beatles, Velvet Underground, Stooges, Doors, whatever, [Bob] Dylan, you now? And that's really the background we came from. And then, that, kind of, fused with bands like the [Jesus and] Mary Chain and Cocteau Twins really, kind of, made us get up and go for it.

Stephen: In some ways, it was almost Dylan that prompted us to get a guitar more than anything. But then, it was really the Mary Chain when we were around 15, kind of, spurred us to think, "well, we can go and do this," you know, which is what we did in the end, although it took about three years from that point 'til we got a band together when we were 18. I think it takes a good five years before any kind of band can trigger people to develop to a point where they can start a band of their own... and, rather than being a musical influence, it's more of, like, a catalyst just to make you do what you wanna do rather than go and recreate what someone else has done.
