I’ve been sitting with this news for a while, and I still can’t quite believe it. I am beyond excited, shocked, and deeply humbled to share that My Aunt Marge series has been gifted to the Getty Museum and is now part of their permanent collection. Even typing that doesn’t feel real.

I never imagined my photographs would find a home like this. This series has always been personal to me; rooted in family, memory, and the city of Los Angeles. To know it will live on in such an incredible institution is something I’m still trying to absorb.

Thank you, truly, to Juan Cavazos. Your belief in my work has pushed me forward more times than you know, and this gift will carry with me for the rest of my life. And thank you to Arpi Kovacs at the Getty for believing in this series and for welcoming it with such care.

I’m humbled. I’m grateful. I’m emotional. And I’m just… proud.

What is the burden of holding all the darkness near the heart, a face, a fragment, a self not yet gone? Yet, that heart longs for the light. The midnight glow, intense and layered, shakes between wonder and temptation. This heat intensifies, layers deepen, and time becomes fleeting. The unbearable heat from celestial heights leaves me exposed, hunted, and unmasked. You can see me.

Where does all this energy go? I endlessly find myself moving between high and low particles. Is there ever enough light? The tiny silver crystals form in concentrated flows. Does this affect focus as well? Do I appear soft when too close? Or is it the high energy and shadows that obscure what remains luminous?

What distinguishes something physical from something numerical, especially when they are reciprocal? It’s that push and pull of an entity, something that lingers, confronts you, and captures a moment, an essence of reality. They continually reflect on and consume each other, staring into each other’s eyes in an endless cycle. This can be true.

The panel on Laura Aguilar in collaboration with the American LGBTQ+ Museum and The Huntington was amazing and heartfelt.

What a moment to share my experiences about working with Laura and stewarding her legacy with the trust. Also, kinda wild to see the portrait I captured of Laura in 2015.

Thanks to Dennis and @lindeblehtinen

Most importantly being on a panel with these amazing people:

Sybil Venegas
Amelia Jones @amelia.jones.la1987
Lydia Otero @lydia_oteroo
Amina Cruz @aminacruz.studio
