I’m in a zine! It’s for the second album from @girls.2thefront , an interview about me, but also partly my perspective about being trans in the music industry, something that isn’t spoken a lot about, but even more of an example about the how the patriarchy also is involved into the music industry. I get respected way more since people perceive me as a man compared to when they perceived me as a women.
I also spoke about that with @msgyver last Sunday, she’s a trans woman who lost a lot of work since her transition, which is crazy, cause she’s an amazing woman and her skills didn’t change anything since her transition, hell she even got better since she’s more herself now.
It’s so important to give people a voice, to listen to each other, to want to adapt on peoples needs. A scene is sooo important, to be there for each other. Something I can ramble about for hours on end. I went the the release party for the new album last Sunday, and it was so nice to see everyone, saying hi to everyone, happy to be surrounded by my people.
Also getting lots of compliments about the flinta band list I made with Lucy. Couldn’t ask for better responses. Something so easy, but made such a difference for many people, it made people feel seen, it brought people to action, it made people talk about the importance of giving a stage to more people then those who are cis men.
I’m here to listen and help people, one of my favourite things ever to do. You can always text me for support or advice

Hillyweird, you’ve been so kind and awesome, but also the biggest pain in the ass, and I would do it again. For the past 3 years I’ve been organising shows for @hillyweird , and for the past 1.5 years we had our own venue in the basement of @vonkindewijk . With over a 50 shows, the venue comes to an end and we have to leave.
I met sooo many great people and lovely bands from over the whole world. All the smelly beers, calls at 10 in the morning from the bands with that they lost the key to their guest room, begging everyone to be quiet outside while smoking, first aid after the mosh pits, buying thousands of beers for the bar, dragging bands to the skiff, spending my money on all the band merch, making so many new friends and getting recognised as that guy from hillyweird by people I can’t remembers shit from, it was all so so so worth it.
Never underestimate how fucking important it is to have community, to be there for each other, to build a scene. Until 2 years ago we had nothing here, now we have new bands, new friend groups, new loves, new memories, new hobby’s, new favourite bands and being the greatest form of yourself. And why? Because @ralphlindsen decided 3 years ago to organise a Fuckass mini festival called planespotting. He might think it’s not true when I give him stressed and bitchy comments sometimes, but I will forever be grateful for him.
But don’t underestimate how grateful I am for our hard working volunteers and lovely visitors who show up every time, we couldn’t have done this without you. I love you

For now, it’s finally time for me to rest in the weekend for once, but don’t be too sad, cause we WILL be back with a new venue. I can’t tell you when or where or how, but don’t forget about us, we will always be your favourite smelly basement.

The 2 last videos are our first and our last show in the basement, both @aquelarre_______

Sad news… after more than 50 shows of around 200 bands and artists since we started our venue in 2024, it looks like this will be the last month here. VONK is being evicted and with that we, and many other great initiatives, will lose our home.

A place that has been crucial in building the amazing Hillyweird community and music scene we have today. For many years there was no place, no stage, for grassroots and alternative music to develop in Hilversum. So we are incredibly proud and grateful we were able to create that space for and with you all and see a scene develop from nothing to what we have now.

We are working hard to find a new space and for that we’ll need our community! So keep an eye on our socials and newsletter. But for now, pogo, dance, sweat, mosh, sing, scream and enjoy our last shows here while you can!

Thank you @vonkindewijk for giving us our space ❤️
