This Bike Month, ride smart and safe! 🚲
In North Carolina, bicycles are considered vehicles, so riders should follow the rules of the road just like drivers. Obey traffic signals, ride predictably, and yield to pedestrians on sidewalks and Cary greenways.

Before you roll, make sure you know your ride. Different bikes and electric-powered vehicles may have different rules about where they can ride and what’s required to operate them.
✔️ Wear a properly fitted helmet
✔️ Use lights at night
✔️ Check your tires and brakes before heading out
✔️ Slow down and yield to pedestrians on greenways
✔️ Call out when passing others on trails and paths

The Town of Cary has earned the title of Best Place to Live in North Carolina for the second consecutive year, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2026–2027 rankings. Cary also placed No. 11 overall in the nation and fifth among medium-sized cities — and was recognized as the No. 51 Best Place to Retire in the U.S.

U.S. News highlighted Cary's strong job market, lower unemployment, higher median household incomes, and shorter-than-average commute times as key factors in the ranking.

The recognition adds to a strong year for Cary, which also topped Niche.com's Best Place to Live in North Carolina rankings and saw The Nest at Downtown Cary Park honored again by USA Today 10Best. Read the full news release at the link in our bio.

It’s Historic Preservation Month! Let’s take a look back to see how far we’ve come!

📍Join us on May 21 from 7–8 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center for The Changing Face of Downtown Cary – North of the Tracks, an engaging deep dive into how this area has evolved over time. From North Academy Street to the stories behind the structures, this second installment in the series (hosted by the Friends of Page-Walker) brings Cary’s history to life, with light refreshments to enjoy along the way. In observance of Memorial Day, Town Hall and most staffed facilities will be closed on Monday, May 25. Curbside collection will be delayed by one day for the week of May 25 - 29. Cary Town Council's Quarterly Meeting is currently taking place at Herb Young Community Center from 1-6 p.m.

Discussion items include finance updates, the recommended FY27 budget, and results from the Town’s biennial resident satisfaction and employee surveys. Those interested are invited to attend in person or watch live at carync.tv or YouTube.

Wheels on Academy, Cary's annual car show, takes place May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Town Hall Campus on N. Academy Street. This event celebrates vehicles of all makes, models, and years. Award categories include a Best in Show and Top 30 judged by decade, with at least one award per decade represented.

Enjoy kid-friendly activities, live music, and food and drinks. While early registration is closed, day-of registration will be available on-site the morning of the event, space permitting.
