Peru is the second-largest producer of cocaine, and the Netherlands is the biggest EU “importer” of Peruvian cocaine. This trade negatively affects both the Netherlands and Peru. In Peru, cocaine production is a major driver of deforestation in the Amazon and the leading cause of violence against Indigenous peoples. In the Netherlands, particularly in Rotterdam, young people are increasingly pressured to participate in smuggling operations as “uithalers” (extractors).

🌿More and more youth are caught retrieving cocaine from the port, some are as young as 14 while 42% are between 18-22 years old. While Rotterdam youth are coerced by smugglers, indigenous communities are facing fatal encounters with narcos. Narcos invade indigenous territory and threaten them with death if they dare to speak out.

📢It is time to spark conversation around cocaine and it’s impacts in both Peru and the Netherlands.

Firstly, thank you to @rousdelarous for teaching me how to make stop motion videos!
I’m working on some content to highlight the connection between coke and the Amazon. I think its especially important to start having these conversations about the impact of coke production, especially in this world of nightlife.

None of my content is to “shame” anyone who has or partakes. I really just want to start bringing this to the forefront and start having more conversations about the impacts of coke production.

The reality is many people don’t know about the impacts of coke beyond whatever the last season of Narcos was. So here is my question to you, did you know coke production causes deforestation?

There are stories that move in silence.
from the Amazon… to the port of Rotterdam.

Ritmo Vital began from a need to understand these invisible connections how lives, landscapes and communities are shaped by a system most of us never see, yet are all part of.

Together with Samantha, we are currently in the research phase of this project, preparing to travel to Tingo María in the Peruvian Amazon to work with local communities and gather stories, images and sound.

This is where the process begins with listening, learning, and building something meaningful and respectful.

We’re currently raising funds to make this next step possible and continue developing the project through photography, sound and immersive media.

The first edition of our in-house LatinXportconcept is kicking off strong. We’ve gathered the community to show up and show out, and we’re sure it won’t disappoint.

For now you have our line up but we have some other surprises for you.

It’s gonna get hot and sweaty. Dress light. Move heavy. We’re putting the foundations of the club to the test.
