This is a great cheat sheet, save it for later if you’re looking to buy new clothing!
Here’s the thing: ALWAYS CHECK THE LABEL!! Make sure the clothing you’re buying is made with 100% natural fibers. It might say “cotton t-shirt” on the sign in the store, but when you check the label, it’s 40% cotton, 60% recycled polyester(aka plastic).
Unfortunately MOST clothes today are blends, so be wary when you shop.
Thank you Lydia Wendt @caclothfoundry for helping our team create this post!

Waves of gratitude for all moms, mother figures, and motherly acts of care for all beings.
May this Mother’s Day be filled with joy and the knowledge that you are loved and appreciated.
Happy Mother’s Day!

In this episode of Garmology, Nick is joined by Lydia Wendt, founder of California Cloth Foundry and a leading voice in clean, non‑toxic textiles. Fresh from the Netflix documentary Plastic Detox, Lydia explains how clothing—especially performance and “sustainable” fashion—can be far more chemically complex (and harmful) than most people realise.
Together, they unpack greenwashing, organic cotton myths, plastic fibres, petrochemical dyes, and why “performance” often comes at a hidden cost to human health and the environment. From natural indigo
and plant dyes to compostable garments, compost‑tested cutting waste, and healthier alternatives to elastane, this wide‑ranging conversation challenges how—and why—we make, buy, and wear clothes today.
It’s nerdy, eye‑opening, and surprisingly hopeful—and will almost certainly change how you look at the label inside your clothes.

Today we pause to recognized the interconnectedness of we humans to the natural world - earth.
Today we reflect on the many connecting threads between humans and nature that teach us of the importance to nurture and value these interdependent relationships.
Today, and most days,
we here at California Cloth Foundry recognize that what we do - make textiles and apparel, have a lasting impact on the health of our earth and therefore an impact on us all. With that knowledge, everything we make is created in collaboration with nature and designed to return to the soil with a positive impact.
As we create our cloth and convert it into our healthy clothes, we aim to make pieces that remind us of our connection to Mother Earth (and father sun), and deepen our sense of closeness with nature.
We embolden natural materials’ sustainability in all we do, as our textiles promote regeneration for the soil it is grown in, the people in our community, and for our valued supply chain, in harmony with our ecosystem.
In the purity and integrity of our cloth, we strive to offer the cleanest and most thoughtful textiles on earth.
Hoping everyone is having a peaceful day today 🌎.
With love,
XO
