Tucked away amongst the native trees of Deanbilla Bay, Gumpi (Dunwich) on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), sits the Quandamooka Arts and Culture Centre (QUAMPI). QUAMPI is a First Nations–owned and operated facility that celebrates Quandamooka art, culture, and storytelling.

Bligh Tanner is proud to have delivered this striking new community hub in collaboration with the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC), COX Architecture, JHA Services Engineers, and QBuild. In recognition of First Nations Peoples’ deep connection to Country, the design places a strong emphasis on incorporating locally sourced materials into the building fabric. Local sands and oyster shells have been engineered into the distinctive rammed earth walls, while locally sourced timbers are woven through the façade of the “Elders Space and Community Circle.” Together, these elements reflect a technical approach grounded in a meaningful connection to Country.

More than just a gallery, QUAMPI is a cultural hub featuring a range of art exhibitions, workshops, performance spaces, an Elders Space, a café, and a gallery shop. It brings together contemporary design thinking with culture, place, and knowledge sharing, creating a welcoming place for both the local community and visitors.

Water leaks are still the leading cause of defects in Australian apartments and commercial buildings—accounting for 80–90% of all issues and costing owners and insurers up to $3 billion each year. So, with stronger enforcement of weatherproofing legislation, why are buildings still leaking?

Bligh Tanner’s Director of Façades, Todd Grice, explored this question in his presentation, “Why do buildings keep leaking?”, at the Zak World of Façades Conference in Brisbane. Through real-world case studies, Todd highlighted key gaps across the industry and the critical role of feedback loops in learning from failures and preventing them from recurring.

Our Brisbane Façade Team joined Todd at the conference, gaining valuable insights into an industry continuing to evolve towards more sustainable, high-performing façade systems.

Thank you to @zakwof for hosting such an insightful event.

Taking a hands-on approach to Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) learning that goes beyond the classroom.

To celebrate Science Week, Bligh Tanner partnered with @aila_national, @constructionskillsqueenslandand and @tractconsultants to deliver an immersive tour of Hanlon Park / Bur’uda.

Students from across Brisbane explored the project through a guided walkthrough and interactive activities, gaining valuable insight into how engineers, landscape architects, urban planners and other STEM professionals deliver engaging community spaces.

Watch the highlights from the day and hear from the students and project team.

The Canopy Café is the latest addition to St Margaret's Anglican Girls' School campus. The new café reimagines the traditional school tuckshop, combining functionality, purposeful planning and contemporary design to create a space that integrates seamlessly into the campus.

A key objective of the project was to support the school community by providing a place for primary and secondary students to connect, unwind and socialise. Positioned in a central location beneath established fig trees, the café offers both indoor and shaded outdoor environments for students and staff to take a break from the classroom.

Bligh Tanner supported the project from concept design through to construction, delivering structural and civil engineering services for the café and the connecting amphitheatre.

Nestled within Queensland’s Granite Belt region, the Girraween National Park Visitor Precinct invites visitors to experience the park’s unique landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

Working alongside Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and our project partners, the vision was to create a welcoming space that showcases Girraween's natural beauty while honouring the Kambuwal people and their connection to the land. The precinct’s design draws on local stone, native seed stock and cultural motifs to complement the surrounding granite outcrops, colourful rock formations and eucalypt forests.

Bligh Tanner delivered the structural and civil design for the new carpark, landscape and nature play area, visitor information centre, and the refurbished ranger station — enhancing the park’s accessibility whilst preserving its distinctive landscape.

Projects like this reflect our commitment to create engaging and enduring community spaces that celebrate culture, education and the natural environment.
