| POLINA MILIOU |

Works shown:

Recent sketches from POLINA’s diary

Flo, 2020
24x25x29
Coloured paper pulp, wood, foam

Key takeaways:

-Pulp can be applied to porous found objects
-Acrylic paint can be mixed in to create a homogenous design without any additional surface treatment
-don’t be afraid to play with colour

Get to know Japanese born paper pulp artist. @yuko_nishikawa

Artworks shown:

Paper Mobile No.16, 2012
Recycled paper pulp and music wire (tempered high-carbon steel)
57x 33 x 61 cm

My Worker is Working from Home and She is a Painter No. 67, 2020
23 x 33 cm
Ink on Paper

Key takeaways from this recipe:
- Paper pulp mixed with clay body is able to be fired once at a higher temperature. This eliminates the bisque firing stage!
- The fibre in the paper allows the artwork to be thin and withhold its structure
- A lot lighter than entirely using clay

PULP is an independent research study into the sustainable practice of paper pulp clay art. This issue aims to highlight artists that are leading with this medium in the industry. By doing so this will inform my personal journey in creating artifacts using recylced paper pulp.

My story begins with my love for making ceramic sculptures and vessels. Along this process I came to realise (and despise) the amount of water, energy and waste created and used when making. These are some happy conclusions I came to when researching the alternative of paper pulp:

- no need for a kiln (saving energy woo!)
- if you don’t like the piece, ditch it! reclaim it!
- no need for yucky toxic glazes or dry chemicals
- recycle magazines, cardboard and paper

Come join me on my new experiment, PULP!

Digital Impact - Disseny Hub Barcelona @digitalimpact.art

“We are both physical and digital people. We learn everyday to exist in both worlds. What’s digital is a mirror of who we are.
Digital art, too.
It’s art.
It’s human.”

Works:
- Artificial spaces by six n. five and some form @sixnfive @someform.studio
Allows the viewer to alter values to invite introspection of how our personal biases and cultural norms shape our definition of beauty.

- Oasis (Sky archive) by Antoni Arola @antoniarola_
Meditative space that immerses us in the colours of the celestial dome. From the explosion of colour of the aurora boreal is to the murky skies produced by sandstorms, hurricanes or pollution.

W Hotel studio project /

As a brand the W hotels philosophy is to design hotels that are inextricably connected to the particular social, political and cultural elements of the site. W hotel does not shy away from forward thinking designs, which makes each project a progressive masterpiece. This philosophy has shaped The Jester!’s material, form and design choices.

The Jester!

The Jester is the W hotels mischievous Kiosk that caters towards the disrupter. It breaks the rules with it’s unconventional form and outrageous bold colour choice. The kiosk steps outside the lines of luxury driven by Sydney’s downtown bustling city culture.

Interpolate ⠀
c4D + redshift renders by OK studios.⠀

The renders bring to life our intention to house young professionals in a personalised space rather than an institutionalised one. Circulation decants off the entry voids and leads inhabitants directly to the mezzanine levels. The semi communal space in between the bed pods create moments for interaction. Every room feels generous and immersed with light and nature.
