1979: Stan Lee on inventing the Incredible Hulk.
#OnThisDay 1962: The Incredible Hulk made his Marvel comics debut in a story written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Jack Kirby. The hugely popular character went from comic books onto the screen, and in 1979 Stan Lee spoke about his monstrous creation, as part of a documentary which looked at how characters were marketed to children.

1980: Sir David Attenborough answers children’s questions.
“I think we’re all interested in wildlife because we are part of nature.”
It's Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday and in 1980 he faced questions from an audience of young viewers about his life and television career. Former Blue Peter presenter Lesley Judd hosted the show, and Attenborough talked about making a connection with wild gorillas, and his concerns for the environment.

1964: The man who saved the Flying Scotsman.
#OnThisDay 1964: A documentary about the ‘most exclusive club in Britain’ looked at the niche community of steam train owners, who have saved engines from ending up in the breakers-yard. Amongst them was businessman and railway enthusiast Alan Pegler who spent £3,000 on the decommissioned Flying Scotsman, and who hoped his expensive hobby would eventually pay for itself.

1971: Calypso comes to Carnaby Street.
#OnThisDay 1971: Carnaby Street in London was filled with the sounds of calypso when a band performed for passersby. Musicians Mighty Sparrow and Lord Kitchener were in attendance and spoke to reporter Joan Shelton about their music. "Kitch" was even persuaded to come up with an impromptu song about Nationwide.

1988: When your retirement home is a hotel in Eastbourne.
#OnThisDay 1988: Documentary series Forty Minutes met some the dwindling numbers of permanent hotel residents in Eastbourne; older people whose long-term bookings made for valuable off-season trade. With establishments being revamped to meet the needs of the conference trade, those who called hotels their home, found themselves no longer quite so welcome.

#OnThisDay 1973: Two young pop music fans from Sheffield spoke to reporter Barry Chambers about the cost of becoming members of fan clubs. The girls took their research very seriously, comparing what was on offer from The Osmonds, T. Rex and Slade, but they decided that the best value came from someone who wasn’t in a band at all.

1984: The Thames Barrier prepares for its official opening.
#OnThisDay 1984: Reporter Maggie Nelson visited the Thames Barrier ahead of its formal opening which was due to take place the following week. Whilst London’s large and striking flood barrier had been operational since 1982, engineers were performing final checks before its official royal opening by Queen Elizabeth II.

#OnThisDay 1986: Lead singer of Norwegian pop group A-ha, Morten Harket, joined Terry Wogan for an interview with a difference; on hand was a spread of Scandinavian delicacies including fresh fish and Norwegian cheese. Morten must have already had his tea, because Terry had to eat alone, conducting an interview that was friendly but increasingly awkward.
