This quilt is killer. It’s all about foundation paper piecing with teeny tiny scraps of fabric, and Y seams. So many many Y seams. I feel like a Victorian Lady squinting through her pince-nez trying to get it right.

William Morris was a British designer and in many ways the central figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement. In 1861 he co-founded what eventually became Morris & Co., a company that produced everything from furniture to textiles. In cooperation with Morris & Co, Freespirit has reissued many of Morris’s most iconic, gorgeous textiles, including patterns like Strawberry Thief and Willow Bough. This week, to celebrate pub day of A Perfect Hand, I am making an insanely complicated quilt designed by Linda McGibbon called Garden Dance.

It is a gorgeous spring day, my novel A Perfect Hand is out in the world, and I am so damn happy.

There are a lot of exciting moments along the way to publication. When you write the words “the end” for the first (and second and third, and tenth) time, when you see your book jacket for the first time, when you hold the actual book in your hands. For me, with A Perfect Hand, the most exciting moment was hearing my words narrated by my favorite actress, Juliet Stevenson.
