Both in the bag at all times. Fruko holds a special place for all Latin music fans. I have to say “El Preso”has got to be one of the greatest salsa songs of all time with one of the greatest arrangements. Particularly the last minute and a halfthat introduces new sections out of nowhere and they’re 🔥

The Cortijo catalogue is 🔥 Heres one of my favs among them and it doesnt break the wallet. 🇵🇷

Another one that gets referenced a lot from me throughout the years. This is probably the first Brazilian record outside of things like Astrud that I got turned onto back around 2000/1999 by Aki @cosmosrecordsI found this copy in Brazil around 2005. Can’t say I’ve ever seen a white label promo of it before or since. This is another staple here at the stable 🐎

A staple in the stable. This Latin LP that will never leave here. So much that I have to keep both promo versions 🤷🏻♂️

As great as the 1957 mono is, the Japanese stereo reissue is a whole different experience but just as enjoyable. Highly recommended and a much more available option.

A special one here for personal reasons. I was standing next to @ecoleye while he was filming the rehearsal for the first show in the Timeless series put on by @bpleasel and @mochilla and Vtech circa 2009 @astatkemulatu demonstrating how “I Faram Gami I Faram” was made from a rendition of a latin standard piano line and changing the notes to the five tone scale. My mind was blown as to how simple yet so effective it was in creating a masterpiece. I felt like I was watching a magic trick for the first time. This was the very show I created Sound Of The Police for. When asked to spin records for Mulatu’s first ever show in LA, I couldn’t just play records. I had to make it a challenging and unique performance. This 1966 pressing hits different than any reissue I’ve heard. Deep and loud. Noisy at times but gives it character. What a document of music history!
