We are proud to honor Nanda Mehta during AANHPI Heritage Month for her extraordinary dedication to uplifting and empowering communities through storytelling, the arts, and service. As the founder of Ahaana and creator of nationally recognized initiatives like Yoni Ki Baat and MenOlogues,

Nanda has created meaningful spaces for authentic voices to be heard while championing cultural awareness, mental health, women's empowerment, and intergenerational connection. Her impact extends from San Diego to communities across India and beyond, inspiring others through compassion, creativity, and a committment to bringing people together 🌎

It was a pleasure attending the California Association of Realtors luncheon and connecting with housing leaders and industry professionals. California's housing challenges requires collaboration, thoughtful policy, and continued dialogue between legislators and community stakeholders.

I appreciated the oppurtunity to discuss the importance of expanding housing oppurtunities, supporting responsible development, and strengthening communities throughout California. 🏡

I was honored to attend the Nurse Alliance of SEIU CA Reception in Sacramento and spend time with the nurses and healthcare advocates from across our state. Thank you Ana from local 521 and Chris from New Nurses Aliiance for stopping to chat with me! Nurses are on the frontlines of patient care every day, and their dedication, compassion, and advocacy play a crtical role in strengthening California's healthcare system. I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from healthcare professionals about the challenges facing their communities and the importance of supporting a healthcare workforce that can continue delivering quality care to all Californians 🏥

While our office honored Friends of San Pasqual Academy as the AD 76 Nonprofit of the Year yesterday in Sacramento, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors was simultaneously considering an agenda item that could have led to the academy’s closure due to budget priorities.

My office submitted a letter in opposition to the proposal and provided public comment reiterating my strong opposition to closing the academy. Instead, I requested a 90-day delay so the County could work collaboratively with my office, as San Pasqual Academy is located within my district.

As the Assembly Education Chair, I am committed to quality education for all California students, and that especially includes San Diego’s foster youth. I’m grateful for the 4-0 vote by the Supervisors to delay the closure in order to complete a more robust and transparent gathering of community input for the future of San Pasqual Academy. 📖

When tragedy strikes, our community will always come together to support one another. My team was grateful to stand alongside our Muslim community, who are hurting during these painful times, at the Interfaith Vigil honoring the lives lost in Monday’s act of hate and violence at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

I condemn all hate and violence. Places of worship are not only sacred, they are meant to be safe spaces for our communities to learn, to celebrate, to gather. No one should ever have to fear for their safety while practicing their faith, and my heart is heavy knowing that three lives were lost.

Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nadir Awad, we remember your names and honor your heroism, which prevented an even greater tragedy.

The strength and resilience of this community will always inspire me. Thank you for welcoming us and keep continuing to care for one another. My thoughts remain with you as we work together to overcome these difficult times. 💙🤝
