Wow.
Got to get out into nature for a camping sesh for the first time since the fire. New car, new gear, new everything. It was odd and bittersweet, missing my old 4Runner and all of my old stuff that was worn in, the familiarity of knowing where everything was. But also excited to be a little lost in the new. Figuring it all out all over again was a nice refresher.
After losing my dear friend and camping buddy to suicide, and then his iKamper to the fires, I wrote to iKamper and told them my story. They graciously set me up with a gently used unit, and got me back into nature. They say iKamper is family, and they sure treated me like it. Matt would’ve loved to know that. So thank you @ikamper for pushing me back out into the world of adventure that I love so dearly.

Finally got back to the property today. Some of you know I’ve been anxiously waiting for this moment, to get back to my fireproof safe. Well, ‘fireproof’. This had many amazing things in it, photos, my dad’s wedding ring, Hollys family jewelry, cash, and my crypto cold storage wallet that I was hoping would buy us a sweet casa one day. Unfortunately, the safe didn’t hold up. Everything was toast. I’m heartbroken, but also relieved I can finally let this entire thing go, grieve it, and then move on and rebuild. Rebuild stronger and better. Because that’s what we do. No stupid fire will hold us back from having amazing lives. Nope.This fire also shows you the sheer devastation that took place. So, stay safe. Love hard. Check on your people. Get your ducks in a row. Take care of eachother ❤️
Our Final Day
-6am: heading to work for the final time. I quit my job that morning since I’d been unhappy for a while, and was so excited for the future.
-Noon: picking up our Jasmine plants. They often fall in the wind. No biggie.
-4pm: shifting plants over so they stop rolling. High winds.
-6pm: power is out in street, so it’s pizza night to celebrate the career change. Very windy but no worries.
-7:04pm: Holly becomes tense with the very swift winds. She brings me out to look. (Orange Glow on right side of screen)
-7:14 (not captured): Ring app alerts of Eaton Fire we return to front and see flames. We immediately get things in order.
-7:28pm- packing bags, thinking ‘better safe than sorry. We’ll be back in a day or two’ panic in street (hearing wrecks happen on our intersection as we finalize everything (Orange glow increases) left 10 minutes later.
8:32pm: Empty driveway. orange glow is lighting up the entire side of camera lens. Chaos in the streets. Anxious drivers flood the roads.
8:39pm: motion detector activated from high winds and debris. Orange glow prominent, lighting up right side of lens
8:51pm: Last known visual on camera.
We miss our home. Our yard with grill and fire pit and cafe lights and our first patio furniture we purchased together to entertain all of our loved ones that we never got to use. Our 4Runner (far left) where we took so many adventures. Our incredible house that Holly made into a home.
Did we leave early? Did we have more time? Could we have packed more? I will wrestle with this for a long time, but when you see flames from your front door, all of that becomes irrelevant.
Thank you all for your love, your generosity, your time, your worrying, and your constant check ins. It has and will continue to keep our spirits up. Can’t wait to hug you all. We will get through this ❤️✊

A week I will never forget. Seeing my little sis whom I love more than anything, on the happiest day of her life. Good laughs, hard cries, country food, surrounded by the beautiful melding of old family and new. I love you both so much and I’m so lucky to get to watch you grow together.
