The inaugural exhibitions: Art Now in North Adams, and Entanglement (for loom) will open on May 17th, at Mixed Media Space. Mixed Media Space is a new 2000 sqft contemporary art exhibition venue in North Adams.
First of its kind, Art Now in North Adams is a grass roots curatorial project curated and produced by: Anna Salmeron, artist and curator who runs Future Labs Gallery in North Adams, and Sanja Stojakovic, NYC based producer and director of Mixed Media Space.
Entanglement (for loom) is an interactive sound installation by New York City based Andy le Max.
Art Now in North Adams exhibition is a ground-breaking project which aims to survey dedicated contemporary visual artists independently working in North Adams today. The goal is to research and map the terrain and make the connections. The exhibition will feature 46 artists on all levels, all seriously dedicated and demonstrating visual mastery of the medium and/or engagement with contemporary issues. Some of the artists have had major museum shows and commercial gallery representations. Others are working independently, or in the regional context, or on a street culture level, or in an outsider context. The conceptual strength and beauty of this unique ‘North Adams artist encyclopedia’ show, we believe, will be in the research and mapping, putting together and showing a terrain never seen as a whole before.
