Feeling comfortable mixing/ DJing in a these spaces alongside my work. I'm grateful to be able to that through my passion and show people the beauty of this music.

The smoothest so far. I spent most of my time dressing the fabric in the room which adds a new layer to the experience and I'm excited to continue exploring the use of other materials in my work.

I put together a quick video edit for the first time too.

emotional architecture - deep listening session at @gutlevelsheffield alongside my installation Ripples II. Not without its hiccups but certainly getting smoother - I managed to actually eat before the event this time. First time playing with fabric too.

I noticed the art is a gateway to play the music I love, deep rooted in the organic and the introspective, to an unsuspecting audience. When you give it time and in the right context this music holds hidden power for the psyche and so these opportunities are very special to me and I'm grateful to be able to share this passion with the world.

Reveries, 2025 for @noboundsfestivaluk

Reveries is a dreamlike, multisensory experience that invites the audience into ambiguous and contemplative states of mind. It centres around Ripples II, a kinetic light sculpture that creates a foundation of beauty, then, through projections, it explores archival film records of Sheffield alongside footage of Mother Nature, fragmented and overlaid. Through this interweaving of nature with industry, it highlights the importance and significance of both phenomena in shaping our current landscape.

Reveries is a homage not only to the grit and graft of Sheffield's history, but also to that of the flora and fauna that surround and support the city. Much like Sheffield, Nature, too, is resilient, innovative, and hardworking, and it demands as much attention, awareness, and respect as the buildings and technology evolving around us.

The visual experience is paired with the more ethereal and introspective shades of ambient electronic
music to create a synergy with the other senses. Through this experience, metic. hopes to prompt the audience to treasure the small moments of beauty from both the organic and the human-made, whilst demonstrating that any space can be utilised to prompt deep relaxation and enhance wellbeing.

I brought my installation "Ripples II" and it was the first time I deployed the portable lighting setup I've been working on, to expand its capacity to exist in new spaces.

I'm currently working on more modifications of the piece to further increase its capacity and create new experiences.

metic. is a Sheffield-based artist with an affinity for detail. He creates multisensory experiences, centred around kinetic light sculptures, which aim to reconnect people with nature by emulating its beauty, integrity and healing qualities.

metic. will be presenting his installation, “Ripples II,” and alongside this, he will be exploring the deeper, darker, and more introspective shades of electronic music. His musical library transcends both the natural and ethereal worlds, as well as the technological and engineered, often demonstrating harmony between the organic and the human-made. He intends to create space for observation and contemplation, both spatially and psychologically, with a core philosophy of harnessing the experience of beauty as a catalyst for positive change. We can expect to see this ethos and the blueprints for his work, conveyed from behind the decks.

This will be a small-scale version of future events and the first opportunity to experience his work in Sheffield.

I’ve been reflecting … sunlight.

An unrefined, impulsive and simple experiment using some new glass pieces. I love how you can see the ephemeral and unpredictable nature of cloud formations dancing with the sunlight. It provides a relaxing experience akin to looking up at the clouds themselves but is indeed a reflection, or a colourful interpretation if you will.

Effortless, calming, intriguing.

I’ve just come back from Waking Life 25 - more to share on that soon.

But here’s a rare photo of me, connecting with a guest over my installation “Ripples” at Waking Life 2024 taken by @arianna.birattoni 💙

Waking Life was tough. For my third installation, transporting 50kg of luggage from Sheffield to the middle of Portugal was incredibly challenging, physically, mentally and emotionally. Lifts were broken, trains only ran twice a day, I was running on no sleep and after delaying my flight to finish the piece, I could only turn up a day before the festival started. I hadn’t even put it all together yet. I was made aware there was no support for me, but I’d already committed. When I was shown the only potential location for the piece, I almost collapsed as it was nothing close to what it needed to be. It felt like a bad trip and I wondered if it was time to give up. But I couldn’t. I conjured up the courage to explain it wasn’t suitable, then after finding a better location and some power cables, the end was in sight. 

It showed me a boundary I now aim to avoid on this path (still working on that). I know it will be hard but it’s not meant to break me. But with any pursuit like this, sometimes you have to fall off the edges to know when you’ve gone too far. Then you can clearly understand where your capacity lies to create a comprehensive and stable foundation to work on. It’s not just the installations to build, it’s myself. Less pressure, more time, more space.

It’s taken some time to recover from overworking myself last year but it also showed me what I was capable of achieving, how much my work has progressed and the value it can truly provide people - this motivates me.

High risk, high(ish) reward I guess, just not like that again.

A Rainbow 🌈

On Monday I had the honour of experiencing one of nature’s most beautiful light phenomena and never have I seen one so vibrant and complex.

Recently I’ve been emerging from a deep cocoon of social anxiety, health scares, depression and loneliness and I observe I am not alone here. So this moment felt very special and symbolic for me. A blessing perhaps. As I felt hypnotised by the ephemeral, coloured light not knowing when it would disappear, I explored emotional avenues it was evoking.

... Contentment. Healing. Calm. Awe. Beauty. Euphoria. Inspiration. Curiosity. Purpose ...

What’s interesting is that a rainbow is a synergy between the sun and the rain, which is a common juxtaposition, with one being seen as powerful and extraordinary and the other, disruptive or miserable, yet without both such a beautiful, rare and somewhat supernatural experience, wouldn’t be possible. Can you see the value in them individually?

I invite you to pay attention to the colours and textures in the sky and the clouds and their ever-changing nature, whatever the weather. Shift your focus and remove the haze. What can you see, that you previously ignored. There is complexity that lies beneath and this complexity holds great value if you choose to look.

There was an unintentional synergy created with the mix I was listening to. A podcast on @introspective_electronics by @einerlei__ . I highly recommend this label if you’re looking for ambient soundscapes that delicately explore multiple genres whilst inviting you into contemplative states of mind.

The very experience I had of this rainbow is one of many I aim to emulate through my work and to be personally reminded that such an occurrence can be free, is precisely a core value I hope to communicate and show people.

Often in times of hardship, nature is a perfect way to find balance and recentre.
