It’s an immersive labyrinth made up of 20 glowing domes, with 18 forming a magical maze of radiant tunnels & spaces to wander through at your own pace. 2 peaceful outer domes offer the perfect spot to pause, reflect & soak in the atmosphere.

Filled entirely with natural daylight, every corner transforms into a breathtaking display of colour — creating an experience that amazes both children & adults.

Handcrafted from 3,900 individual pieces in Nottingham, Luminarium has been visiting @lakesidearts for 20 years.

Created by artist Alan Parkinson, who has been designing luminariums for over 30 years, this installation takes inspiration from the work of James Turrell.

Even better? Much of the material is reused for puppets and can last up to 7 years, making this a beautiful experience that’s kinder to our planet too!

Avec ses dômes de dix mètres de hauteur, ses modules gonflables accolés en d’étranges cathédrale-chapiteaux, le Luminarium de la compagnie britannique Architects of Air ne passe pas inaperçu ! Fruit des recherches géométriques et architecturales d’Alan Parkinson, cette incroyable organisation de modules, coupoles, bulbes et rotondes, ne se révèle pourtant que de l’intérieur.

On y pénètre comme dans un labyrinthe, pour se perdre dans des cavernes où la lumière naturelle filtre à travers les parties colorées pour se déverser, comme à travers des vitraux, en multiples nuances subtiles et saturées, de couleurs, de teintes et d’éclats. Art et ingénierie se mêlent pour proposer cette expérience sensorielle unique, se donnant en partage dans une déambulation libre où l’on peut s’asseoir, s’allonger, s’endormir...

Plus d’une vingtaine de Luminarium différents sont sortis des ateliers de la compagnie, à Nottingham, parcourant la planète pour rassembler plus de trois millions de visiteurs. À l’occasion des 30 ans de la compagnie, une nouvelle création unique est née : le Terceradix, présentée en exclusivité au festival SOÑJ.

From 7–10 May 2026, we will be bringing LuminiMega (one of our seven Luminaria) to Maker Festival Twente in the Netherlands. We’re delighted to be returning to this vibrant festival dedicated to young people and creative exploration.

Set within the festival grounds, the Luminarium becomes a world of light, colour, and flowing inflatable architecture. An environment designed for shared discovery - a place to move, pause, and experience something unexpected together.

We are thrilled to be part of Maker Festival Twente 2026 and to share this journey in such a dynamic setting.

✨ Six Luminaria, one month

This May, we will present our Luminaria across six locations in the Netherlands, France, and the UK - working with festivals, cultural spaces, and public programmes that invite people to gather and experience art in shared space.

Across these venues, you’ll encounter a selection of our seven Luminaria, including:

🇳🇱 Enschede, Netherlands (7–10 May) – LuminiMega
🇫🇷 Landerneau, France (20–25 May) - Terceradix
🇬🇧 London – Battersea Power Station (22–31 May) - Luxart
🇬🇧 Nottingham – Lakeside Arts (22–31 May) - Timisien
🇬🇧 Kent – PlaygroundKent (31 May) - Aborialis
🇬🇧 Oxford - Harwell Campus (29 May – 2 June) - Terceradix

Each Luminarium is a large-scale inflatable installation, hand-built to create immersive environments of light, colour, and organic form - a space to slow down, wander, and experience from within.

One of the most unique experience is happening which the children will love as much as you. Luminarium at Lakeside Arts is coming back to Nottingham this May half term.

Here is my previous view:
This is the third time I've been in one of these and I just really love it. There is nothing similar to it... That I have found anyway. It is almost like going inside a bouncy castle into a beautiful dreamy colorful place. Hopefully that sounds good not trippy.

It is a super sensory experience for all and is wonderfully settling wandering around. Do expect some families not enforcing the no running rule but you will still find lots of places of calm to relax.

The expectation is that you stay in for 20min but most stay a little longer as it is just too good.

The queue can be quite slow to get in, expect to wait up to an hour. I would book the first time slot of the day if available.

The trip can easily be extended by a walk around the lake and a play in the park to make it a fab day trip.

Step inside the Luminarium and explore glowing tunnels, towering domes, and vibrant, colour-filled spaces. It’s immersive, calming, and completely magical for all ages.

We’ve been before and the girls absolutely loved it such a unique experience that’s just as fun for grown-ups too.

⏱️ Sessions are around 30 minutes, so it’s a short but sweet visit. Staff are on hand to keep things safe and running smoothly just something to bear in mind if you’ve got very energetic little ones!
