Within Les Caves Ecoiffier, a historic winery building in the southern French town of Alénya, OMA Octavio Mestre Arquitectos (@om_arquitectos) has created a coworking hub for the Communauté des Communes Sud Roussillon (CCSR). The space is designed to accommodate young local companies and start-ups through a system of flexible work modules available for short- and long-term use.

Beneath large timber beams spanning from facade to facade, the intervention introduces new openings in the rear elevation and roof to bring natural light into the previously dark interior. The rear facade incorporates deep-set corten steel-framed openings that distinguish the contemporary intervention from the existing structure, creating a transitional threshold between interior and exterior. Skylights incorporating solar-control blinds illuminate the central workspace.

A façade where aesthetics, fire safety and sustainability come together.

For project Meerdijk, RAU Architects selected Yoroi by @zwarthout_wood: deeply charred bamboo with a natural, tactile appearance and integrated B-s1,d0 fire performance — achieved without chemical coatings or fire retardants.

Made from FSC® thermally modified MOSO® Bamboo X-treme, the façade combines durability, dimensional stability and a low-maintenance lifecycle with a low — even negative — CO₂ footprint.

A technically robust and architecturally distinctive solution for public buildings.

Training for healthcare professions calls for a place capable of supporting demanding learning processes, intense work rhythms, and a daily engagement with people. Designed by Paris-based VIB architecture (@vibarchitecture), the Eure Paramedical Training Institute (IFPE) in Évreux, France, responds through an architectural approach that brings together educational and technological facilities with attention to its users, its landscape context, and current environmental considerations. The human dimension of the project is closely linked to the surrounding landscape and to living systems.

Located on the Saint-Louis block in central Évreux, the IFPE occupies a former hospital site containing ancient and medieval remains. The site underwent 18 months of archaeological excavation prior to construction. The project forms the first phase in the site’s transformation, contributing to a mixed-use district with a strong landscape character, developed by the urban planners Philippon Kalt. Situated close to Évreux Cathedral, it was carried out under the supervision of the Architect of Historic Buildings of France.

Designed by Buro5 (@burofive), Modernist Villa Monteville transforms a fragmented house into a unified spatial composition shaped by light, proportion, and movement. Conceived as a reconstruction rather than a new build, the project treats architecture and interiors as a continuous system, where every intervention responds to the experience of inhabitation.
Influenced by the spatial principles of Le Corbusier and the compositional clarity of 1960s modernism, the design evolves from the inside outward. A newly opened vertical light well becomes the central architectural gesture, drawing daylight through all levels and connecting the house spatially and atmospherically.

Material restraint reinforces this clarity. White surfaces amplify changing light conditions, while stone, textured finishes, and carefully integrated furnishings establish warmth without excess. The staircase acts as both circulation and structure, organizing the rhythm of movement across the home. Through calibrated light, layered volumes, and subtle material continuity, the project restores coherence to a house once defined by fragmentation.

The Green-House at Green-Wood, a new visitor and education centre for The Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, strengthens the public’s experience of the cemetery as a destination for art, history, and nature. Founded in 1838 as a rural cemetery, the 478-acre landscape influenced the development of New York City’s public parks and is recognised as both a cultural landmark and a National Historic Landmark. Alongside its role as an active cemetery, Green-Wood hosts a wide range of public programmes and events.

The 19,200-square-foot project by Architecture Research Office (@architecture.research.office) consolidates previously dispersed offices and activities into a single accessible location, expanding visitor orientation and access before arrival through the cemetery’s main entrance across the street. The programme includes community classrooms, staff offices, gallery spaces, and an archive, supporting Green-Wood’s role as both a cultural institution and community resource.

This residential project in Sabadell responds to the increasing demand for compact, efficient living, accommodating a couple seeking to downsize. Vallribera Noray Arquitectes (@vallriberanoray) designed a solution tailored to the constraints of a narrow, deep plot, defined by the local vernacular unit of twenty palms, or approximately four meters, which has historically shaped the pattern of row houses in the area. The design prioritises essential spatial requirements, minimising underutilised area and reducing associated carbon emissions and energy use.

The residence is organised across two levels, with an emphasis on internal connectivity and access to natural light. The ground floor sequence begins with a multipurpose entrance hall for bicycle storage and laundry, leading into an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that extends to a rear courtyard. A central core, containing a bathroom and an open staircase, functions as a light well and establishes visual continuity between levels. The first floor contains a primary bedroom, study, and secondary bathroom, all arranged around the central stairwell to optimise spatial efficiency.

Located in a historic lakeside village in Berlin, this Wooden House designed by Transstruktura (@transstruktura) occupies a waterfront plot defined by mature trees and expansive views. Conceived as a compact cubic volume, the house presents a restrained architectural language that balances visual clarity with environmental responsiveness. The black timber exterior allows the dwelling to register as a distinct object within the landscape, while the use of natural materials ensures that it remains aligned with its surroundings.

The project’s sustainability strategy is rooted in passive environmental control, timber construction, and on-site energy generation, demonstrating how a modest residential building can achieve high levels of performance through integrated design decisions.

The environmental logic of the house is most evident in its façade articulation. The east and south elevations are opened with large, floor-to-ceiling glazing, allowing daylight penetration and passive solar heat gain during colder months. These openings frame unobstructed views of the lake and surrounding vegetation, reinforcing the relationship between interior space and landscape.

Designed by michielizanatta (@michielizanatta) in collaboration with MAdeMA (@madema_studio), Casa CM in Udine rethinks the house as an evolving framework shaped around daily life. Rather than a static object, the project reorganizes domestic space through a layered sequence of environments, each responding to different rhythms—private, collective, and transitional.

The spatial structure unfolds vertically: a secluded basement accommodates leisure and retreat, while the ground floor opens fluidly toward the garden, extending living and dining into an outdoor room. Above, the sleeping level introduces distance and quiet, complemented by a generous terrace that reconnects the house to its urban surroundings.

Flexible planning allows spaces to shift over time, supporting changing patterns of living. Casa CM positions the home not as a fixed container, but as a responsive environment shaped by use, memory, and everyday experience.

In the Sudetenland along the Czech–German border, Prague-based studio No Architects (@noarchitectscz) has restored a recreational complex in the Ore Mountains. The project is composed around the relationship between a reconstructed Sudeten homestead and its contemporary reinterpretation.

The building accommodates a holiday house, with facilities for summer camps and family-oriented mountain lodging.

The Ore Mountains differ from other mountain regions such as the Krkonoše and Šumava, which historically supported more mixed populations. Prior to 1945, the region was inhabited almost exclusively by Sudeten German communities, part of the German-speaking population along the Czech–German border. Following their expulsion after the Second World War, settlement patterns shifted significantly and many areas were left depopulated.

Located in the Alvim district of Sarpsborg, Norway, this project by Øyvind Johnsen Arkitektur (@oeyvindjohnsen)addresses a specific need for expanded childcare capacity within a residential context characterised by a high proportion of low-income households. The development consists of a two-storey extension and the renovation of an existing 1970s structure. The project reached completion within a twelve-month timeframe from site acquisition to the start of the academic term.

The new extension is positioned with a deliberate offset from the original single-storey building to maintain a clear distinction between the two construction periods. While the neighbourhood is primarily defined by white timber residential housing, this addition introduces a vertical timber cladding finished in a traditional red earth pigment. This material choice references Norwegian rural vernacular while identifying the building's function as a public utility. The primary structure utilises a timber frame, which contributes to a reduction in the initial carbon footprint of the building assembly compared to mineral-based alternatives.

Reimagined by Supremati Interiors (@supremati), the Fisherman’s Hut on Poland’s Baltic coast transforms a 1920s structure into a quiet, materially grounded retreat. Working within a protected conservation setting, the project reshapes the compact plan to introduce contemporary comforts, while retaining the modest scale and character of the original dwelling.

Material decisions anchor the design. Reclaimed timber flooring, sourced from a local barn, runs throughout the apartment, reinforcing continuity and reuse. Bespoke joinery and internal doors, crafted by regional artisans, bring a tactile, handmade quality. In key areas, deep blue Zellige tiles introduce depth through their irregular, hand-glazed surface, paired with locally produced ceramics from Paradyż.

The palette draws directly from the Baltic landscape—muted greens, sandy tones, and grey-blues—layered with lime-washed walls, natural stone, jute, and seagrass. Through reclaimed materials, local craftsmanship, and restrained detailing, the interior remains closely tied to place, prioritizing texture, memory, and longevity over excess.
