Ponte City Apartments is one of Johannesburg’s most iconic and controversial buildings. Completed in 1975, it rises 54 floors high in the suburb of Hillbrow and is famous for its unique cylindrical design with a hollow core, allowing light into every apartment.
Originally built as a luxury address during the apartheid era, Ponte later became associated with urban decay and crime in the 1990s. Today, it stands as a symbol of the city’s resilience and transformation, with renewed interest, renovations, and a strong community inside.

“Halcyon senegalensis” is a striking, medium-sized African bird known for its bright blue back, white underparts, and distinctive red and black bill.
