Anakbayan Montreal
A national democratic Filipino youth group in Montréal organizing & mobilizing for our right to land, decent jobs & wages, education & social services

Thank you to the panelists and attendees of the “Désarmons l'empire” panel.
Disinvest for Palestine (@desinvestir4palestine) and Genocide Dienamics (@genocide_dienamics), shared insightful information on the different ways that the Canadian economy is implicated in imperial violence and militarization.
Going forward, Canada plans to increase military spending to 5% of Canada's GDP and to increase arms exports by 50%, profiting to the amount of 500 billion in 10 years.
Because of military spending and investments in arms manufacturing, essential public services, from education to healthcare, suffer more than 25% in investment cuts as Canada and many of its complicit businesses like General Dynamics and Bombardier contribute to violence, imperialism, and militarism around the world.
This project by the government also comes with the removal of environmental protections and a worsening of the housing crisis as the building of new military bases and infrastructure projects will destroy land and displace communities to facilitate resource extraction for rearmament and trade with the US.
Canada is marching to war. Taxes will rise, pensions will be cut, healthcare will become more inaccessible, tuition will rise, and many many jobs will be tied to the slaughter of millions of people as Canada turns the entire economy towards supporting genocidal profiteering.
We cannot allow this bloodletting to continue

Thank you to the panelists and attendees of the “Désarmons l'empire” panel.

Anakbayan Montreal, Migrante Quebec, and Project Genesis met with tenants today to discuss housing issues, highlighting how landlords exploit people’s lack of information to push unfair rent increases.
We’re continuing to organize with tenants through more meetings, community outreach, and collective action to make sure people know their rights and can fight back together. We also plan to bring these concerns directly to Stephanie Valenzuela and push for stronger accountability to keep landlords in check.
If you want to volunteer with us with community outreach please message us!
This is how we, the youth, serve the masses!

Thank you everyone who came with us to make cyanotype tshirts and prints, and to everyone who gave donations to help Anakbayan Montreal go to ILPS Canada’s 6th National Assembly.
We are trying to build solidarity among organizations and people who recognize the ongoing crises and want to deepen their understanding of Canada’s complicity in the repression and human rights violations of peoples across the globe.
We can do this at the ILPS Assembly and mobilize together against Canada’s largest arms trade show with your support.
Presently, Canada enables endless imperialist wars of aggression around the world and in the Philippines. It sells military equipment parts to the US, mining operations are tied to Canadian companies, and Canada participates in the militarization in the Philippines.
It our responsibility to continuously expose and mobilize against these actions and policies perpetuated by the Canadian government.
If you support our initiative, please show your support by donating to anakbayanmtl@gmail.com or by mobilizing with us at CANSEC on May 28th
Feel free to DM us for more information on getting involved in the ILPS Assembly and CANSEC mobilization in Ottawa.

ILPS or the International League of Peoples’ Struggle is an anti-imperialist and democratic formation. On May 26-27, 2026, ILPS Canada will host a national political conference titled “Against Canadian Imperialism”.
The conference and assembly aim to deepen our collective understanding of Canadas role in the global imperialist system, to strengthen resistance to militarization and repression in our communities, and to build solidarity among all those impacted by housing crises, poor working conditions, unaffordable cost of living, and the systemic exploitation of people, land and resources.
Why are we shutting down CANSEC?
CANSEC is North America’s largest weapons and military technology buying and selling. This arms trade show is complicit in the genocide in Palestine, and war crimes elsewhere in the world like the Philippines. It is happening on May 28 where we will be ending our ILPS conference at by shutting down their arms show!
Your donations will go to the mobilization materials such as placards and banners, transportation gas, food and lodging. If you would like to know more and join our protest action, please message us or come to our workshop!
*If you cannot attend and would like to donate, you can send an e-transfer to anakbayanmtl@gmail.com (Please include “ILPS” in the note)*

On May 1st, International Workers’ Day, Anakbayan Montreal joined the Immigrant Workers Centre to stand in solidarity with workers in the ongoing fight for rights, dignity, and justice.
Workers from different sectors and backgrounds shared testimonies about how Temporary Foreign Workers and migrant workers are treated as disposable and cheap labour with no social services or support for their health and safety. Closed work permits enable employers to continue their abuse of precarious workers. Employers profit off of their labour while workers face dangerous conditions, wage theft, harassment, excessive working hours, and fear of deportation.
A truck driver from Migrante Quebec shared his experience being scammed by agencies that made him pay thousands of dollars in return for jobs with terrible working conditions. Only through collective action are we able to stand against these injustices. Where employers and the Philippine government treat workers like disposable imports we must stand together in solidarity.
We call for the following:
Abolition of closed work permits!
Status for all!
Decent and safe work!
Healthcare and social protections for all!

Yesterday we wrapped up the Montreal leg of Ka Daning’s speaking tour with a solidairty potluck diner organized by ICHRP × Migrante Quebec. We welcomed members of the community for a night of food, cultural performances and solidarity as we continue to organize in support of the struggle of peasants and migrants in the Philippines & Canada
After our diner, Ka Daning was invited to speak on the on going systematic issueson peasants rights and the exploitation of ressources in the Philippines. The evening was followed by powerful poem readings from Ka and Tony. Their messages filled the room with revolutionary spirit. Cultural performances continued with Lyn and Nick as they sang an original song Pilipino Ka by Inang Laya.
The evening progressed with a community singing to Bayan Ko where we sang in unison as a demonstration to unity and power.
Please reach out to us if you want to get involved!
Let’s organize for land, food, and justice! Let’s continue to keep calling justice for the Negros massacre victims and hold the fascist state accountable for all the human rights violations they have been doing!

Today, we hosted Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, a veteran leader of the peasant movement in the Philippines for his Canada wide tour.
Opened by a vigil for the 19 land activists massacred by the AFP in Negros Occidental, Ka Daning explained the current situation of the Phillipines long systemic issues on peasant rights and the plundering of our resources at the hands of comprador class. He also drew connections to Canada’s recent miltiary engagements with the Marcos regime, especially the signature of the SOVFA agreement and the sales of military equipment to the fascist military forces.
We followed with cultural performances by Rosie of OCHRP and a panel discussion with local mass organizations Migrante Quebec, Offensive Populaire and Socialist Unity. OP made parallels in particular with organizing and agitating tenants living in derelict apartment blocks in working class neighborhoods to peasants.
On the panel which Anakbayan Montreal was a part of, we talked about what mass struggle means in our line of work. As Filipino youth, it is our task to contribute to the revolution by deepening our political understanding of the root causes of poverty and forced migration and then applying it to our mass work here in community organizing and campus organizing. It is our task to immerse among the broad masses and learn with them and struggle with them.
We ended the event with a performance of Balang Araw.
Someday, we will be freed from our chains.
Someday, we will reach our victory, if we fight together in solidarity.
But we must, that ‘someday’ will not happen, if we don’t fight now.
FIGHT FOR LAND, FOOD, AND JUSTICE!
JUSTICE FOR THE NEGROS 19 MASSACRE VICTIMS!

CONNECTING WITH THE LAND STRUGGLE IN THE PHILIPPINES
Join us to explore class struggle in the Philippines and its links to migrant and working-class organizing in Canada.
WHEN: April 25, 2026 | 2:00–4:30pm
WHERE: 3744 Rue Jean-Brillant, Montréal
Meet one of our panelists, Jela:
Jela is a community organizer in the sectors of the Filipino immigrants, migrant workers, youth and students in Montreal. He was born and raised in the Philippines and migrated to Montreal with his family in 2015 as a result of the exploitative labour export policy of the Philippines. In 2025, Jela went home to the Philippines on an exposure trip where he got to integrate with the lives of the farm workers and peasants. The lessons from the peasant organizations such as KMP are being applied to the youth organizing and community organizing here.
Anakbayan Montreal is the overseas chapter of Anakbayan, which is an organization of different groups of the Filipino youth, such as working youth, students, out of school youth and others. Anakbayan carries the political line of the National Democratic movement which provides the youth a deeper understanding of the roots of poverty and forced migration. Anakbayan Montreal is currently involved in community organizing in the Filipino neighborhood in Cote-Des-Neiges.

We had a great time with MUFASA (@mufasamcgill) members today discussing the realities of Filipino migration. We got to hear about eachother’s migration stories. This educational discussion allowed us to dive deeper into the root causes of poverty in the Philippines which forced our grandparents and parents to seek jobs abroad. It shed light on the systems that perpetuate abuse and exploitation on migrant workers as cheap labours here in Canada. This workshop was held in their university campus where a lot of Filipinos work as custodians or cleaners. At the end of the workshop, we showed examples from other Anakbayan Canada chapters about their campus organizing with the workers and how we can start to apply these learnings inside McGill University.
If you want to get involved with our community work, please come join us!

Join us this thursday, April 2, in exploring the history of Filipino migration to understand how it is rooted in the social system in the Philippines.
In this workshop, we will discuss why the root of poverty of the Filipino people is also the source of forced migration. In the case of McGill’s Campus, we will be able to connect this topic to the custodians on campus who are Filipino migrant workers.
As students, how do we understand their conditions in order to shed light on their lives?
📌Location: MCGILL SSMU BUILDING (3480 Rue McTavish centre B - 39)
