My morning breakfast ritual is to read the NY Times and the Guardian for any reassuring news that our democracy is still breathing. And then last week, photos of the ongoing horror in Gaza erupted with images of starved, emaciated kids, and it exploded in my brain. All of the UN agencies, international aid agencies, and advocacy groups like Doctors Without Borders had been beseeching the world to stop a genocide that had been unfolding for months. The photos were too much. I had to unload the anguish generated by that image of the emaciated dying kid as a stand-in for all the genocides in the past brutal history of our species. I needed to shout “Stop!” We said "never again" since Auschwitz. Now, Jews in Israel were doing what? Surely not making themselves safer?. The horror only gets worse as protests erupt all over the world and the daily dying goes on unabated.. This little image won't change a goddam thing. But for the moment, in doing the painting, it gave my rage the best way to shout “never again”

The anticpation of a year has collapsed into the shortness of a week . As the "Days Grow Shorter from May to December" a song from a musical whose name I can't remember, the opportunity to see some of my things from the last two decades are now getting fewer. The club hrs are from 1 to 6 PM ( Check Sunday on their web page) so give a look.

Late getting here, but this is my first New York exhibition since 2006 and represents selected examples from the 2 decades of this new century. To all friends and colleagues whom I failed to notify before this, please excuse the fragmented memory of a 95-year-old fool.

This is how I sometimes look in graphite. It was a study for a painting. that I didn't finish. David Kassan painted me much nicer

This painting of mine was sort of "discovered" when the current owner posted it here a year or so ago. I copied the painting but somehow the information got trashed. It's a very blurry photo and I'd love to hear back from the owner ( also lost in my bad record-keeping skills) to see if I can get a good photo and of course the owner's name for updated records. Anyone out there??

An old painting of mine has seen a second life in the June issue on Fine Art Connoisseur magazine in a feature piece on "Couples." It's from 2003 and titled" Park Bench The image here is cropped to a detail.

A recent commission was of my youthful idol, Bill Bradley because he starred on the New York Knicks only 2 championships ('69, '71) in the last 50 years.—a record of some sorts I'm sure. Delighted to paint him I decided to focus on his own youthful smile as a way to honor those years. He became a US Senator and ran abortively for the presidency as a Democrat in 2000.The image is cropped; 28x21 inches

I finished three portrait commissions last year. This is one of them—Judge Joan Ericksen— that I feel quite successfully incorporates an environment and a sense of the presence of a warm human being who also happens to be a distinguished jurist. Oil on Linen 44x42 inches.
