The Museum of Graffiti was just named one of the Top 26 Museums in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report. As the world’s first museum dedicated to graffiti culture, we bring the evolution of graffiti, from the 1970s to today, to life in vibrant colors. This is especially impressive because the museum was formed only 5 years ago by 2 people with big dreams who really put their community first, who had yet to have a place to call their own.

I’ve decided to open up my personal archive and share material via zines. The first two are in memory of Tracy168 and Case2 and they include never before printed material. I’d like for these two writers and artists to be remembered thus the zine. Link in bio.

These are some of the great independent graffiti books and zines that I picked up at @unlockfair recently. I recommend them all. These are short run publishers and all the books sell out within their first year. Zines are even smaller runs. I’m inspired to publish more. Stay tuned. These are unavailable in the US but I’m working on getting some to @museumofgraffiti which does carry great books. Here’s what’s shown:
1. @backjumps book
2. @chaze autobiography

After the book fair I headed to Paris in order to get a few hours of train benching in. Photographing trains and learning about who is active in a particular city is something that still interests me and goes back to my teen years in Brooklyn. Paris’ 8 train line is full of graffiti : panels, end to ends, whole cars, tags, and even the occasional throw up. As active as the scene is, it also seems like cleaning efforts are strong as I noticed dozens of clean cars with remnants of paint around the windows and doors. The variety of styles are vast and range from plain styles and block letters to all types of varieties of wild style and some ugly styles. There are even cartoon pieces and other new wave stuff. Here are a few videos to give you an idea of what’s going on. #trainspotting #subwayart #subwaygraffiti #graffititrain #graffitiworld

A few images from the Urban Art Biennale held at @voelklinger_huette which is a former steel factory turned art museum. It’s in a small town in Germany but well worth the visit. I was not able to see many of the installations due to my limited time there but caught a few of the installations including ones by @alexfakso @joachimromain @vortexx_gdc seen here. Loved the piece by @bigtimebrad and @boris_tellegen but I didn’t get photos. Glad to see @kadir_amigo_memis @nielsshoemeulman @remirough and @oxpostertime ! I am also sharing images of the building and murals on the outside of the building that I imagine were part of a previous event here. #urbanartbiennale #urbanart #insitu #contemporanyart #artinstallation

I am also sharing images of the building and murals on the outside of the building that I imagine were part of a previous event here. #urbanartbiennale #urbanart #insitu #contemporanyart #artinstallation

It’s been an incredible weekend at the @unlockfair in Germany where I was able to meet brilliant publishers, photographers, authors, and artists sharing their books and zines in a perfect setting at a UNESCO world heritage site. I learned that small publishers and self publishing in the graffiti and street art world is booming. I am thankful to @javierabarca.es for the invite and for having the vision to create such a fair. Big ups to Dumar Novy for his stage presence and ideas. Glad to see @micklarock01 @ruyzdael_publishing @stylefile_magazine @per @greatbates @don_stone1 @boris_tellegen @jayramier @chaze @hitzerot_ @remirough @dutch_graffiti_library @jaspervanes @alexfakso and so many other new and old friends. #graffitiworld #graffitiphotography #graffiticulture #zines #publishing

I was 19 years old when I collected the signatures, tags, and pieces in this book. All of them came from 3 places - my very first trip to Los Angeles where I painted and explored the city with Charlie, Frame, Risk, and Power. On this trip I met the late, great Tempt and the incomparable Defer. Zeno and I painted the famous Belmont Tunnel for the first time, painted a few freeways, and were put up on ice by @og_slick (it had yet to make it to the east coast). The 2nd place the signatures came from was the opening of Martin Wong’s short lived American Museum of Graffiti (on Bond St.). The opening was a who’s who of writers and I happened to set off the book that day. This is where the Dondi, A-One, Vulcan, and Stash2 tags came from. The last was my apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn - at the time a great graffiti club house for me and my friends. In those days we were all broke and spent most of our free time trying to secure paint, food, and other essentials. It was the days of Olde English, Philly Blunts, and Rustoleum. Life was unpredictable in many ways but with the help of my friends and family I made it and didn’t fall victim to the Crack epidemic that took so many lives in my neighborhood. I look back at these pages and all the names fondly, happy to have met so many great writers in my youth.
