About to turn in edits to my publisher for my gothic, psychological horror novel for kids, so I dug through my desk for all my old notes, sketches, and research material from when I initially wrote it in… 2022? It has gone through so much change since then, including the name change to BAD MANOR. I remember reaching out to Marc Dingman at one point to be sure the brain science I include in the book is correct. It’s a PTSD book, which is important to me, but I never explicitly say that in the story, it’s just woven throughout. I can’t wait to hear reactions from kids. If this book can propel just ONE kid’s love of reading and appreciation of horror, I will be thrilled. I’m getting increasingly excited to see this come to life. This one will feel like my heart, printed and bound 🖤

I left my job because it was a toxic environment and I wanna tell you about the only thing I will greatly miss. My dad was my first customer almost every single shift for the past 3 years. He showed up because it was a way to see me and support me. I gave him a coffee and we talked if it wasn’t too busy. If he was ever late or couldn’t come for some reason, everyone would ask, “Is your dad okay?” I never took a picture of him sitting there, and I wish I did. But I do have this old photo of him in the same restaurant years prior, supporting me then by wearing a t-shirt of my favorite bass brand. I have my issues with my past and we don’t always agree, but it has become more and more clear just how much effort he’s put into being there.

This morning, I had coffee in his kitchen. After 3 years, I can’t give up those morning coffee talks, so I went to him. And I’m thankful he’s taught me how to show up.
