A-Doc
Asian American Documentary Network β¨
We are a national network that increases the visibility and support of Asian Americans in the documentary field.

2026 marks a major milestone: A-Docβs 10-year anniversary! Join us in celebrating a decade of our vibrant community in bloom π· πΈ π
Our anniversary logo was designed by our very own Communications Coordinator, @melo_gao_loveswhales. Read her inspiration for the piece below:
βA-Doc: 10 Years of Community in Bloom,β imagines nonfiction storytelling as a vibrant ecosystem that is inseparable from the people who sustain it. The design is a love letter to A-Docβs journey, celebrating the past decade while dreaming of a future that is accessible, sustainable, and rooted in community.
The smiling house reflects the foundation that has been nurtured by our intergenerational community, planting the seeds for future storytellers. A canopy of chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and daffodils, symbolize joy and new beginnings. Centered in the design is a group of people reflecting and sharing, not isolated, but moving forward together. The deliberate inclusion of the snail represents resilience, and a gentle reminder to make time for rest. In an industry that moves rapidly, the film reel as the snailβs shell reimagines community as a home that you can always return to.
The bright shades of tangerine, fuschia, and chartreuse contribute a sense of whimsy and collective dreaming. As A-Doc looks forward to the next 10 years, this design honors the roots that connect us and celebrates the community we continue to build together.β - Meloddy Gao

About the film: βAn intimate look at inequality in San Francisco through the lives of Single Room Occupancy residents. Filmed over six years, it paints a mosaic of strangers relying on 80 sq ft rooms to stay housed and avoid homelessness. Their fight to break free from cyclical trauma and crushing structural forces is a universal story about the future of the American city.β

Friday, May 8, 1:30-2:30pm - The Creative Process: Film is an art form and creative practices can define our work as artists. In this pane moderated by @theresaxtine (Catapult Film Fund), we will speak with filmmakers @karlamakingstuff (THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT), @cocos.sanctuary (TRACES OF HOME), @windter24 (BEFORE THE MOON FALLS) to share their creative processes in the documentary genre.
