4/24/26 Black Garden: I’m thrilled to share with you all my first photo book titled “Black Garden”. This series celebrates the diverse styles that enrich our daily lives within our black culture. It highlights the unique expressions of our community, showcasing how we discover different styles that resonate with our personalities through our own hair. This book captures a variety of new looks, illustrating how each person seeks the perfect fit for their environment and lifestyle. It’s a nostalgic journey into our culture’s relationship with our hair, revealing how we navigate and care for it. From learning to do our own hair to visiting professionals like barbers and beauticians, the book showcases the stores where we find essential products—oils, hair ties, caps, and accessories. These portraits serve as a testament to our culture’s deep love and care for our hair, reflecting our high regard for our appearance. While clothes and jewelry enhance our look, our hair is the core of our identity. “Black Garden” invites you to witness the pride we take in our hair, allowing the world to appreciate its beauty in all its forms. It encourages you to embrace your unique style, letting it flourish and showcase the vibrant tapestry of your true self. Your hair is your foundation—a sacred space to cultivate the person you aspire to become. It’s a place to trim, cut, and nurture your individuality. Your hair is yours alone, just as your identity is a special part of who you are, shaped by your genetics. Embrace your hair, cherish it, and let it thrive. Shape and redefine your look so that not only you can enjoy its beauty, but the entire world can celebrate and accept you for your authentic self. I want to thank everyone who contributed to bringing this idea to life—from close friends to family to the STL Art Community and everyone whose ideas and support played a huge role along the way to make this book come to life. This book is available now on Blurb.com within their bookstore. Please click the link in my bio to secure your copy today. Much Love Everyone, and remember to always protect your garden.🌺🙏🏾

8/28/25 “My Reintroduction” I am more than just a photographer; I am an artist creating imagery that transcends the ordinary. I embody the spirit of a photojournalist, a holder of an art degree, and a dedicated freelancer. I am an author and a storyteller, a seeker of truth and beauty in the world around us. As an archivist and documentarian, I aim to lead and educate, guiding others through the captivating art of photography. I chose this path to immerse myself in my passion, cherishing every moment. Through self-discovery, I realized I have a unique creative eye that allows me to present the world from fresh perspectives, capturing overlooked moments and unveiling narratives often absent from mainstream discourse. My vision serves the people, amplifying silenced voices and preserving the forgotten tales of our history. This remarkable gift has profoundly enriched my journey. Initially, I desired my work to be recognized, to show the world who I am in my profession. Yet, over time, I’ve discovered that my true passion lies in illuminating the stories of others whether they stem from tragedy, represent a city, or help individuals express themselves. As my artistic voice flourishes, I embrace the world with open arms, driven to give back through my art. I strive to share my knowledge with new artists and art lovers, offering support, encouragement, and love stemming from my educational background. My mission is to inspire appreciation and boost the confidence of those in need. As an art lover at heart, I immerse myself daily in learning and growing within my craft, believing in giving back this knowledge to the next generation while learning from them in return. As you engage with my artwork, remember that you are witnessing my unique perspective viewing the world through a different lens of life with borrowing my eyes for once to take a glance at what life is like from my point of view. I want the world to see my perspective, immerse in the uncharted, rediscover lost feelings, and be inspired by our documented experiences. More artwork/shows coming soon, stay tune!Sincerely, Jalen B. Lee 💙📸

Lee 💙📸

4/3/26 The Black Experience Art Show: Yesterday, I was blessed and honored to be one of the many artists to showcase two of my art pieces (“A New Start“ and “Kitchen Beautician“) at URB Art Gallery hosted by @sacralsev, where she gathered all creatives throughout the whole city of STL and curated not just a show, but a full experience for everyone to enjoy. From the art to the poetry slam, and even all different types of art lovers coming together, enjoying this great event gave everyone a glimpse of how powerful the art world is within the city and how much everyone supports each other's craft. This show is set to run until the end of May, so if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, I really recommend you come by and see everyone’s art. Come support your at friends and their visions!

4/2/26: During this past weekend, I rediscovered a collection of my old film strips that I had developed in 2019, marking the beginning of my journey into photography. I revisited the fundamental principles of film photography, learning how to properly operate a camera and master the intricate process of full film development, including exposure, chemical processing, and printing techniques. Remarkably, I had never anticipated that these vintage images would be digitized until now, which made me even more thrilled to see how they turned out on screen. Take a look at this past contact sheet that was part of a short series titled, “Kitchen Beautician,” featuring candid shots of one of my close friends doing single braids for her teammates from inside her own kitchen/living room area of her own home, all moments captured with a 35mm Pentax film camera.

Dear Jalen,
Today is a special day, a day for you to truly unwind and embrace whatever brings you joy. Whether it’s indulging in a treat, sleeping in, catching a movie, exploring art, or even creating your own, this is your day to let go of any stress from work, photography challenges, or other goals you have for this year. You deserve to treat yourself with love and appreciation today. Reflecting on your journey and the challenges you’ve overcome. You’ve faced hospital visits and battled stomach issues, loss of weight and energy and so much more, but yet you’ve shown incredible resilience. Your dedication to your art, from shows to projects and freelance gigs, is truly inspiring. You’ve achieved your yearly goals and are steadily returning to your studies and more. You’ve been a guiding light for your friends and family, leading by example and helping them navigate life’s ups and downs. Your wisdom and support have been invaluable, and you’ve reminded everyone, including yourself, to never give up, to hold onto hope, and to keep fighting. While you may feel like you’re behind others, remember that your journey is unique and valid. You’ve been more happy lately, and we’ve all missed this cheerful side of you. Today, take a moment to pause and cherish this day fully. Appreciate the gift of another day, the love of friends and family, and the support system you have. Celebrate being able to eat normally, being free from pain, and returning to your passion for art. Above all, embrace happiness and self-love. Don’t take this for granted, and always stay solid. You are a testament to navigating life’s challenges and a beacon of hope for others. As you return to your routine, be proud of the person you are today. Enjoy another year around the sun with today being your 29th Birthday and your last year in your 20’s. Keep going and don’t stop making your dreams turn into reality. Much love kid. - Sincerely Groovy💙
