Last Thursday, we gathered at Onna House SoHo (@onnahouse) for Stitching Circle, a needlepoint workshop designed and led by artist Liz Collins (@lizzycollins7), and co-hosted by Abigail Klem Spector (@abigail_klem) of the Spector Craft Prize and Lisa Perry (@lisaperrystyle) of Onna House.
Bringing together friends, artists, weavers, and writers, the evening offered a meaningful chance to slow down, commune, and return to making with our hands. Through shared practice, conversation, and creative exchange, the workshop reflected what we value most at the Prize: craft as a living tradition that binds communities, carries heritage, and creates space for connection across generations.
Thank you to Liz Collins for leading such a thoughtful workshop, and to Lisa Perry and Onna House for creating a space that continues to champion women artists and makers.

Meet Deborah Needleman, Basket Maker and former Editor-in-Chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine, and Advisory Board Member for the Spector Craft Prize. Across a career at the forefront of cultural publishing and design discourse, Needleman has shaped how taste, craft, and culture are understood and communicated. Today, her practice as a basket maker brings that perspective into a more intimate register—connecting editorial thinking, historical lineage, and the act of making itself. Her view of craft is expansive and enduring: a reminder of its continuity, its necessity, and its power to connect us across human history. @deborahneedleman

We are honored to welcome Jeffrey Gibson to the Spector Craft Prize Advisory Board.
A painter and sculptor, Gibson draws on his Mississippi Choctaw and Cherokee heritage, weaving Indigenous craft traditions with abstraction and popular culture. His work challenges boundaries between fine art and craft, high and low, and past and present. A MacArthur Fellow, his work is held in major collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the National Gallery of Art. His perspective—shaped by identity, material, and meaning— is invaluable. @jeffrune
