Blumberg found his artistic grounding in cinema, improvised music and drawing. Blumberg gives the impression of someone who just wants to try things. Success doesn’t seem to have blunted his curiosity; if anything, it has unlocked it. “I realised I wanted to be free.”
He aspires to be like the 92-year-old painter Rose Wylie, whose print hangs on his wall. Wylie’s acclaim came later in life, but “she’s still doing the same thing she’s done her whole life” he says. “Her ambition is to wake up every day and make a painting or a drawing.” Art, he adds, is not reliant on anything other than making it.
