OFFICINE SAFFI LAB
Mastering Ceramics.

Process as Form — a live ceramic performance by Officine Saffi Lab with Hannes Peer, presented at Salone del Mobile 2026 within Salone Raritas.
Rather than presenting a finished object, Process as Form unfolds as an open, time-based process. Over the course of the fair, a team of ceramicists from Officine Saffi Lab constructed a large-scale sculptural wall on site, designed by @hannespeer . The work developed progressively, through a continuous sequence of gestures, adjustments, and decisions—moments of making that usually remain hidden within the studio.
The wall evolved through an ongoing negotiation between material behavior and human intervention, revealing the rhythm, uncertainty, and precision inherent to ceramic production.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.
Salone Raritas was curated by @lisarosso with exhibition design by @formafantasma .

In Terrain by Hannes Peer, mineral reds, ochres, and dusty tones evoke the heat and vast horizontality of Arizona. Pale blues recall expansive desert skies—echoing the vision of Georgia O’Keeffe—introducing moments of suspension and openness. Deeper, more saturated hues reference Mexico’s earth, pigments, and craft traditions.
This nuanced palette emerges from extensive material research by our team. Through bespoke glaze formulations inspired by diverse geographic traditions and experimental techniques, the ceramic surface becomes a stratified, almost geological field.
Discover Terrain by Hannes Peer at Via G.B. Niccolini 35a, Milan — until Sunday 26 April, 11 AM – 7 PM.

Terrain by Hannes Peer unfolds as a stratified landscape where ceramic masses collide, overlap, fracture, and realign. The surface operates as a tectonic system—governed by tension, displacement, and rhythm—forming a dynamic sculptural choreography.

What happens when ceramics become architecture?
On the occasion of #MilanoDesignWeek, AD met with @HannesPeer — among our #AD100 2026 — and Francois Mellè, co-founder of @officinesaffi.lab, who shared with us the vision behind "Terrain": a monumental ceramic landscape that transforms matter into architecture, on view throughout the week.
Here’s what they shared with us.

Milan Design Week 2026: we are proud to present Terrain by Hannes Peer
A monumental ceramic landscape, designed and produced in Milan, open to the public from tomorrow, Monday the 20th, through Sunday the 26th.
More than a single artwork, Terrain marks one of our most ambitious projects to date: a large-scale ceramic high relief that pushes the architectural potential of clay into new territory

Officially introducing @salietabacchijournal’s new issue: Riv.06: Vestigia.
Gracing our pages is an exclusive look inside the spaces of @officinesaffi and @officinesaffi.lab , a place where “clay structures time differently.” In her piece, our Editor-in-Chief @elisacarassai explores the slow revolution of contemporary ceramics, reminding us that the medium is, by nature, “an art of vestiges: a record of gestures preserved in mineral form.” She takes us on a journey through the workshop’s history and philosophy, analyzing how “time is measured in drying hours, firing cycles, and the patience required to bring earth into form.”
The issue presents an exclusive portfolio of images by photographer @eric.persona , who has captured Officine Saffi Lab’s vital spaces alongside a rare, behind-the-scenes look at a work-in-progress ceramic installation by @hannespeer, debuting during this year’s Salone del Mobile.
The issue is out on April 29th, and now available for pre-order via link in bio and via @edicola_518 🏺
