The Disney+ anniversary special leans fully into the world of #HannahMontana, complete with a surprise #SelenaGomez cameo and a brand new original song, embracing pure nostalgia with zero irony. “This is not a joke,” Cyrus says. “I wanted to make the fans feel seen.”

The special also marks a full-circle moment with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, as the two reunite onscreen after years of estrangement, revisiting the bond that defined the original series. “It was so obvious… you can’t fake the kind of connection that we have,” Cyrus says. “The inside jokes, the nicknames, the handshakes.”

In the years that followed, #MileyCyrus leaned into a rebellious rebrand that ultimately shaped the longevity of her career, a chapter she now views with more clarity after getting sober. “I boldly and unapologetically presented myself,” she says. “Now, through a sober lens, I can have compassion and understanding for myself.”

Now, she is embracing every era at once, giving fans the version of Hannah they grew up with while finally owning it as her own. “It felt like home again.”
